Several people have asked questions about their price for Logos 7 and how the discounts work, so I’d like to address that subject here in this thread in a way that helps you understand how things work, instills trust in us (our competence and our motives) and our systems, and lays out your options in a more transparent way.

First, I’d like to apologize that the pricing and discounting aren’t clearer and easier to understand. We’re listening to your feedback and making adjustments to things that slipped through our testing process. But for better or for worse, we have a fairly complicated pricing model. We adjust your price based on what you already own and have discounts for our academic program, introductory promotional discounts, and now Logos Now membership discounts and a new combo discount (i.e., a discount for buying the library and the feature set together). Unfortunately, we don’t have full-blown support for combination products or stacking discounts in our ecommerce platform yet, so we’ve had to calculate all these discounts behind the scenes and present you with a composite discount that doesn’t provide transparency into the details. For some of you, that’s fine. The details are overwhelming. You just care about whether we’re delivering enough value for the price. For others of you the details are essential to understanding and making an informed decision. We want to serve all of you well.

Second, I’d like to assure you that the pricing and discounting are working as intended and as we’ve communicated in our messaging. Every reported instance of something wrong with dynamic pricing or discounting has been proven to be a misunderstanding—which, again, is more our fault than yours. We'll continue to work to clarify and simplify our messaging around pricing and discounting.

In order to address both of these issues and in the spirit of openness and clearer communication, I built this price and discount calculator. For those of you who are having trouble figuring out how we generated your price and need to be able to validate all the details before making a decision, it should be exactly what you're looking for.

It's not editable, because we can't have everyone looking at it and using it at the same time. So you'll need to go to “File” > “Make a copy…” and work from that.

There's a tab for academic and a tab for non-academic. Get into the right tab, and then follow the steps.

  1. Input whether you're already a Logos Now member or not (or already own the feature set associated with the base package you’re interested in buying).

  2. Select the base package level you're looking at (all tracks are supported, since each level across tracks is identically priced).

  3. Visit the base package product page and find the "Discount for Products You Own" in the info tooltip next to "Your dynamic price" and paste that into the designated field (as a positive value). See the first image below for an illustration.

  4. Visit the associated feature set product page and find the "Discount for Products You Own" in the info tooltip next to "Your dynamic price" and paste that into the designated field (as a positive value). You'll need to switch to the "Paid in Full" tab first. See the second image below for an illustration.

After you answer the questions in the top section, it will generate all of the pricing and discounts for you for a library-only purchase, a feature-set-only purchase, or a full base package purchase (library + feature set). Under each of those options, you’ll see what impact Now membership has on your pricing. At the bottom you’ll see the savings that a Logos Now membership provides (before and after the cost of your Now membership).

This section assumes you’re primarily treating Logos Now as a membership program with purchasing benefits. If you want to treat Logos Now as a replacement for owning the feature set, you’ll see an even more dramatic difference in price and overall savings (by comparing Library w/ Now to Base Package w/o Now).

Here's the screenshot of a base package product page, which shows where to get the “Discount for Products You Own” value for the base package:

Here's the screenshot of the feature set product page, which shows where to get the “Discount for Products You Own” value for the feature set:

I hope this is helpful and provides clarification on how we’re arriving at the prices you’re seeing and how those prices align with the messaging around discounting. I hope it also provides you with a nice overview of your available options and the savings associated with them.

Let me know if I can answer any additional questions. Thanks for your patience with us during this rollout.

Phil,

I regularly calculate all kinds of dynamic pricing and combinations, sometimes confusing.

At the moment some of the discounts with Logos 7 can be quite stunning.

eg. if I wanted to purchase both Hermeneia and Continental commentary series I would have to pay about US$1600.

However I could pay $770 for Lutheran Gold, or $830 for Platinum Standard and get both Hermeneia and Continental commentary series plus about 325 other books which I do not have (some of which I do not want).

Half price with extras.

Hi, Phil. Thanks for that explanation. I have a question, though. I pay my $8.99/mo for Logos Now (as soon as I get the $50 coupon I am waiting on for purchasing the entire 35-volume collection of NSBT [why is it taking so long to receive?] I will purchase a yearly subscription [membership, whatever you guys are calling it these days]). Does paying my $8.99/mo not make me a "member?" I ask because I do not see a Logos Now Member discount on "Your Custom Discount." What I am I misunderstanding with the whole Logos Now membership and membership discount? Thank you, sir.

Hi PHil,

Thank you for the explanation and for providing the tool. However, I still think dynamic price is not working properly. I bought L7 Starter Standard and my dynamic price was 75$. I was doubting to buy the Starter or Bronze package so I checked my dynamic price now for the Bronze package. This is an screenshot of the webpage:

This price is 10$ more expensive that the one I got before buying the Starter package. And this is the screenshot of the price calculator:

Note that discount for feature set is 0$ as the webpage doesn´t discounts anything although I have the starter features already.

Thanks again for trying to communicate better how dynamic price works.

The figures you have entered in the blue boxes appear to be incorrect. Check the tool tips on the Bronze page and the Full Feature Set page: https://www.logos.com/product/120029/logos-7-full-feature-set. If they are correct, can you paste screenshots of the tooltips here?

Phil,

It took me a few minutes to orient myself to what I was looking at in your spreadsheet, but this is definitely a helpful tool and a step in the right direction. It might be worth integrating something like this on the main website so that those who do not frequent the forums can also find it (provided of course that including a built-in tool like this would not unnecessarily strain the website). Having something like that from day 1 when Logos 8 launches might make a significant impact on the number of calls and emails Faithlife has to respond to from people trying to figure out pricing. Again, thank you for making this available!

Phil,

I cannot calculate my pricing, because my Academic Discount is 40%*, and that value is not programmed into the spreadsheet.

*As of the last official communication i have received on the subject.

Phil,

Maybe this has been addressed before but I was going to play around with the calculator but I already purchased Logos 7 Silver.  When I go to the Logos 7 Silver page it should say that I owe $0.00 but for some reason it says i owe $467.50.  Didn't know if you knew about that bug or not (maybe it isn't a bug I don't know)

Also, is there an easy way to find the feature page from the logos 7 homepage? I see links all over for base packages but I haven't seen one for the features.  Being a Now member does that option not appear for me?  I can find it if I search for a product and search for Full Feature but I don't see a link to it.  I could be blind though

Hi Mark,

Thank yo for trying to help.

The screenshot you requested:

The web address is https://www.logos.com/product/81148/bronze (not sure if you can see it as it was my personal offer). However, if I go to the link you provided, this is what I see:

And then the calculator shows me this:

Definitely, there is something wrong somewhere.

Mattillo, you can also assess and add the Feature sets from the Homepage by going to the Product Menu, choose Base Package Comparison then choose Feature Set Comparison page. https://www.logos.com/compare/feature-sets

Hi again Mark,

Sorry but after sending the post I realised that it was a misunderstanding. I was speaking about upgrading from Starter to Bronze package, and the link you sent is for full feature set. Anyway, in the first screnshoot you can see from where I copied the discount in the price calculator.

Thanks again for helping,

You need to put in the tooltip figure from the full feature set into the lower blue box, because Bronze comes with the full-feature set.

You will also need to switch your currency back to USD, because the spreadsheet assumes dollar amounts. That's where the other errors come from.

Thanks for sharing the example. Base package discounts are truly an amazing value, especially when you look at some of the big sets they include and consider their prices when purchased separately.

Monthly and annual Now members enjoy the same benefits for Logos 7. I'm not sure what you mean by "I do not see a Logos Now Member discount on 'Your Custom Discount.'" Can you post (or send to phil@faithlife.com) a screenshot and explain what you expect to see? Keep in mind that what we present is a composite discount, so you won't see the itemized discounts anywhere, which is why I created this tool.

I'll check on the NSBT promo code.

So the bottom line I see in the web browser is or is not my final price?

I am a Logos Now subscriber. For example: Standard Platinum is $855.66 net. It states the full price is $1888.89 and that I am saving 54%. Dynamic discount is $770.38. My "Special Logos Now" discount is $262.85.

My real discount is 23.5%, not 54%, yet 54% sounds better. I already own the dynamic content, thus calling it a discount is a little misleading.

I am also confused as to what Logos Now already includes. It appears that several of the datasets in this package are not included in my Logos Now subscription. I count 23 datasets that are new to me, which are not included in my current Platinum Logos 6, or Logos Now Subscription.

Thanks for checking on that promo code for me.

What I meant was this: in your example above for your custom discount window it says, "Special Logos 7 Savings For Logo..." I did the assume thing (we all know what that does) and assumed that the rest of the line after the ... had something to do with Logos Now, ergo, an itemized deduction for Logos Now. Your screenshot below:

Now, my screenshot for the same item:

As you can see, I don't have the line that says, "Special Logos 7 Savings For Logo..." so I thought that I wasn't seeing the Logos Now discount as I thought "Special Logos 7 Savings For Logo..." meant savings for Logos Now.

I hope that clarified what I was asking. Again, thank you for what you do!
