No, Syntax Searches are not part of the training. They would require a couple of hours only about them to do them justice, and frankly I've found they are rarely needed nowadays. Almost all of the most typical syntax related searches can already be done using dataset searching, and it seems that every few releases a new dataset appears that allows a standard search for yet another scenario where one might need to delve into a syntax search.

Have enjoyed the videos greatly so far.  What is the difference between the old INTERSECT and the new INTERSECTS?

would it be possible to get a PDF document showing the different search strings?

Mike,

It's not a PDF file, but does this help?

Fr Devin Roza:
So far, Faithlife has decided to not include scripts for training videos. Hopefully we can work something out, but for the moment it's not clear that's going to happen.

A complementary Logos resource that has searches shown in Advanced Search Training plus links to open search in Logos and Verbum would be awesome. Script explaining the search would be appreciated.

My Favorites has a Search Examples folder with many saved searches, which are useful for a starting point when looking for something similar. My Search Examples are an advanced set of Search CookBook. Hence, an advanced search resource with clickable search links would be awesome.

I think it would be great to have a readable resource of examples!

Can search example links be shared as a part of a personal book, if FL won't offer such a resource?

Thanks to FL for including Carta and a Hebrew audio bible in Logos 9!

1. Get a person to volunteer to copy the examples from one chapter.

2. Get someone to collate the examples and create the links.

3. Release as a .docx file for creating personal books.

Yes, alternative idea is a Faithlife group that can discuss Advanced Sharing plus Notes (with search tips) and Visual Filters.

Are these dataset searches covered in your videos?

Six years late to the party!

As a Protestant layman I found the videos by Fr Roza and Fr Dalton to be superb. I followed along in Logos with no problem. The teaching was of the hightst quality taught by true professional educators with hearts for God. I have been through Morris Proctor's and John Falahee' training videos as well as those found on the Logos web page but none were as transformative for me as these were.

Going through these videos opened Logos up to me in a way that was like attending graduate school after being mired down in high school for over a decade.

Well done Fr Roza and Fr Dalton!

I have also been watching these videos. I purchased specific Verbum legacy and St Paul's libraries just to get all the Verbum training videos. I am watching all the training that I can gain access to on my budget, and I appreciate each and every resource. Each has its own unique strength. I learn best from my access to them all.

But there is nothing else on the market (or freely given) like these Verbum videos. I have had a hard time putting into words what is different. I guess it is easier to say what they are NOT. They are NOT a slick infomercial. They are NOT more advertisement than training. They are NOT a mini-lesson without the context and previous training needed to understand them.  They do NOT waste my time.

Thank you!!!
