7.2 Bug?: What is the purpose of the Locator bar within (the resource pane of) the Courses tool

Within the courses tool, the resource's Locator Bar controls don't do anything.

  • You can't show or hide the resource's table of contents,
  • you can't move up or down between the resource's articles, and
  • you can't navigate via the breadcrumbs. (Although you can click on "Introduction to Part 2", and (chapter) "9 Chosen, Betrothed, ..." does disappear from the breadcrumb,) the article can't change.

Of course this all makes sense, because the content shown in the courses tool is an excerpt from the full resource, and is not the full resource itself.

Since the Locator Bar controls don't appear to have any real benefit within the courses tool pane, is this a bug that the Locator Bar is shown, starting with 7.2?

If the bar is meant to be there for some other reason, perhaps the breadcrumbs should be disabled, like the remainder of the bar's controls?

The locator bar is showing because you have it enabled for that resource, and it's a global setting. I'll open a case to see if we can always hide it in the Courses Tool. Thanks for reporting this.

    Thanks for the reply!

As you know, it's doubly-problematic for the textbook, as the video and the transcript each have a locator bar. Besides using up more vertical real estate, we have to collapse the video region once we finish watching the video, so we're not stuck scrolling/reading the transcript in the compact vertical area.

I don't remember needing to do that in 7.0.
