The Atlas panel has been updated! The map display has received a major update that should be much more performant. We're using a new dataset to support this improvement; there are a few data issues still being refined.

The "Adonijah Names Himself King, David Chooses Solomon" map failing to load is a known issue. Please let us know if you encounter any other issues loading maps, thanks!

It's really great - fast, smooth, attractive - just generally brilliant. Can't wait for it to migrate over to the desktop app. Good work!

I have just spotted a glitch with some of the place names though (this is the first map I've spotted with issues - not checked all of 'em)

A couple of other maps are having issues too - two of Nehemiah's maps don't seem to load any location names/markers or anything, so you just get an empty map. Day one issues are always expected so I'm not moaning - just letting you know what I've seen.

This didn't work for me:

This is my personal Faithlife account. On 1 March 2022, I started working for Faithlife, and have a new 'official' user account. Posts on this account shouldn't be taken as official Faithlife views!

Hi Mark,

Does it also not work in Incognito mode?

Didn't work for me either when accessing it with the link above, Chrome & Firefox. Selecting another map didn't work. No zoom. But after I closed the tab and accessed from Tools -> Atlas, it works.

We fixed the bug that was causing this. Please try again.

Thank you for the update!

I noticed that you can now rotate and tilt the map's orientation. Try holding SHIFT while hitting any of the ARROW KEYS (Left, right, up, down) or holding CONTROL + LEFT CLICK while panning with the mouse. These improvements are most welcome!

Also, Right-click and hold, drag left-right for rotate. Right-click and hold, drag up-down for tilt. Need a orientation reset.

EDIT: Way too sensitive.

I know this has nothing to do with the web app directly, but now that the vector maps are coming along, I'd love to be able to select multiple data sets (routes, areas, borders), even where the the combos don't make sense. I might want to click on a layer showing Babylonian empire and another showing Assyrian empire. I might want to see all the routes of David together. I might want to compare disparate routes or just use multiple routes as a aid to help me picture one in relation to the other. My memory works best when I can see new things in relation to things I already know. Please don't forget other types of map data. Population density. Area of religious influence. Languages. Agriculture, Archaeology. Other things beyond bible boundaries like the spread of Christianity, diverging traditions, etc. The main reason I mention it here is that the contents only allow one thing to be selected at a time and I'm hoping it's flexible enough to be updated for multiple selection of various types of layers.

I do love what I see. Great quality. Good controls. (For all the wonderful flexibility that Accordance allows, display and control are pretty rough there.)

Thanks for all your comments on the new Atlas implementation: please keep them coming! One nice feature of the Web App and our new approach is that some problems can be resolved and shipped much more quickly, both on the editorial and programming sides.

<snip ... />

There's a lot more we hope to do with Atlas in the future, but for the near term, our focus will be

  • Completing the initial set of maps, providing a map for every biblical story that needs one (Volume 1, Volume 2, Volume 3)
  • Adding more detail to those maps. Our first priority there is including places that are generally relevant to the era, though not part of the specific story, to add more context.

These don't work for me on Mac, but

these do. Rotating is especially helpful because many Palestine maps are longer N-S than E-W, so you can see more by putting E at the top.

You can reset the orientation with the button below the minus sign to zoom out (which still needs an image to make that clear). We still need to add a way to reset the pitch.

I'm getting nothing but the map legend in the upper left corner. I've tried both Terrain and Flat. I've turned on/off/on experimental display. I got an error first time I opened saying it needed GL or something. Just quickly clicked and didn't really read it.

Both Atlas and our resource display rely on WebGL being supported and enabled in your browser.

I'd be happy to help you make sure yours is enabled. Which browser and operating system are you using?
