Ok, so when it is released, would I be able to just use Logos 7 instead of upgrading, and also, if I cant, then the logos 8 basic wont be released for a few months after the logos 8 release, will I not be able to use logos 7 until the free version of 8 is released?

Thanks again.

Yes absolutely - although eventually (quite some time) Logos 7 would become unsupported so advising to the free version of 8 would be recommended when it becomes available both to get the new free functionality and latest fixes etc.

Yes you can do that without any problem.

Note - both my comments above are based on what has happened in the last few major releases and I don't expect anything different next time round

Ok so since I won't be able to use logos for a few months, apon the new software until the free version comes out in just got ripped off.  What's the point of spending $1,500 on a software I wont be able to use for a few months. .. thanks for letting me know.  I'll be getting a refund now since I'm in my 30 day money back still.

When a new major release is launched all you existing functionality remains.

Almost always ,,, remember when the smart "topic search" got dropped with one of the upgrades. This has never been totally replaced, though some of us made a stab at replacing it by creating collections of dictionaries and encyclopedias.

FFrom my understanding, I won't be able to use logos after the update to logos 8 until the free logos 8 basic comes out, even tho I've bought a base package for $1,500?   And the free version could take months

No this isn't correct - and apologies if I confused you.

You can carry on using Logos 7 for a long time after Logos 8 eventually ships - certainly until after the free version is released when you can upgrade to that.

I think - but am not sure as I wasn't using Logos then - that this was the major architectural change from L3 to L4.

My comments were more related to Logos 4 onwards but appreciate I didn't make that clear.

No need for anyone to panic--this thread was started with nothing but speculation. Nothing's going to happen to anyone's purchases.

As Graham stated, Logos 7 will continue to work for a good long time. Eventually--likely not for about a year--Logos 8 will roll out with special new library bundles (different mixes of books). You can buy one then, getting a discount for books (known as "dynamic pricing") you already own, or do nothing if you like. Perhaps a few months later, the Logos 8 engine will be made available for free to everyone, so if you don't want to spend any money, you can just wait for that while you continue to use Logos 7 as always.

Logos 7, when it first rolled, was nearly identical to the most recent version 6, so the change really wasn't anything to get excited about either way. With Logos, you never lose access to books you have already purchased. You may, when a new version is released, be tempted by a few new bells & whistles or maybe some really good deals on books you've had your eyes on... again, there's nothing to worry about.

Take a quick glance at some of the other forums:

Libronix (including Logos for Mac 1):
Has a post that states that states that: October 1st, we will turn off all web services supporting the Libronix Digital Library System – that is Oct 1, 2017    --  It also states that: This will not disable your Libronix DLS installation.

Then there are also: With dates of some very OLD posts in those forums to show how old those versions are

Historically Old versions of Logos get used long after new versions come out
Nothing guarantees that that will continue BUT history of Faithlife is that old versions keep running.

Sometimes new book require an upgrade but what you have keeps working as long as the computer you have keeps running.

There sometimes are problems running older versions of Logos on newer versions of the computer operating systems.  That is we do not know what will happen to Logos 7 [and 4 and 5 and 6] on Windows 13.  [[the same maybe true on Mac updated OP]]

Yes, a friend continued to use Logos 6 for many months after Logos 7 was released, which included Logos 6 maintenance releases. After free Logos 7 was released earlier this year, friend purchased free Basic and Verbum Basic packages for Logos 7 upgrade.

Logos Wiki => Mac Release Notes and History shows initial Logos 7.0 stable release on 22 Aug 2016 was followed by five Logos 6 maintenance releases. End of Support for Logos 6 happened four months after free Logos 7 availability. Anticipating Logos 7 and Verbum 7 to be similarly supported after Logos 8 release.

Uservoice suggestion => Bring back Topic Search and Fuzzy Search "Bring back Logos 3's Topic Browser and Fuzzy Search capabilities" has Faithlife reply on 14 Nov 2016:

Bradley Grainger:

The LDLS3 Topic Browser has been replaced by the Factbook and Topic Guide.

An improved version of LDLS3 Fuzzy Search for Bibles is available as Fuzzy Bible Search (in Everything Search in Logos Now): https://community.logos.com/forums/t/132569.aspx

Not totally true, there was resources I had in the old format for LLS 2.0/2.1 that were never converted to Libronix format and so were lost when Logos 4 came out.

I would have to try and dig out of storage the original CD-ROMS to give you the specific details but there were some sets that included the textbook, workbook and supporting video and audio material which were never converted over to LBX format. There were also some resources put out by what I believe was called Logos South Africa publishing that were never converted to LBX format including a suite of resources built around the Collins Dictionary -  it included an audio pronounciation of every word in that dictionary. That was lost with only the text of the dictionary being converted.

Ok thank you.

However, you said purchased logos 7 basic?  .. ya mean got for free right? I think spending $1,500 on a base package is enough as it is.  I am not looking forward to having to buy more items to run my logos.  I really enjoy logos and am just getting the hang of it now, I checked other bible softwares and honestly, nothing compares to logos.

Just took a survey from Logos asking what the liklihood is that I would upgrade to Logos 8. I wonder if it is now on the horizon.

That’s interesting. The England betting polls are currently at Aug 26. But Aug 23 very close.

No survey for me ... PC works fine. New Logos updates don’t. Easy answer.

I got the same survey.  Asking if you are likely to upgrade.  If you do upgrade what interests you the most.

For example, would you just upgrade for Logos 8 features.

Upgrade to a new bundle with new libraries?  ect

And then also what price point would you want to invest to upgrade.
