Is it just me, or did Logos once sell this? I thought sure I'd seen it before, but suddenly it's not there.

Yes but it was through a 3rd party- i still have it- but logos no longer sales it, they do not have the license.

I would add a quick note- that I still refer to his volume, I believe it is one of the better, simply formatted grammars for beginners. Would love to see this volume and Dana/ Mantey, which I believe is a much better start to go further than some of the modern grammars, because of its substance and formatting.

Certainly this is a public domain book by now.

I know enough about copyright law to be dangerous. My copy of Machen's greek grammar was published under copyright in 1923. According to this chart, if copyright was not renewed, it's in the public domain. If it was renewed, it will be in the public domain next year (95 years after publication date).

Amazon lists a 2nd edition work with an additional author. I'd much rather have the original work in Logos

What third party had Machen's NT Greek?  Sometimes you can still find them.

I believe Rose Publishing at one time was doing it, till some copyright issue came up and it was dropped.

I have approx. 100 resources just on the Greek language- basic to advanced- I find as I read through the plethora of commentaries, with all their references to the languages whether Greek or Hebrew- these are needed to check out the writers.

This is done not to prove someone right or wrong, though sometimes it is the case, but to see how they arrived at their conclusions. This has also allowed me to grow in my understanding and ability to research.

It can be tedious work, but the reward is awesome, I'm not a preacher or pastor, but everyday in everyway there are people in our lives whom need to have the truth shard with them, they are looking for a source to go to- learn and speak as one with authority.

I looked round as much as I could, including forums, copyright legislation, etc., just to make sure this book is certainly in the public domain.

This is because I have processed the whole book and arranged it in HTML format, so I would be ready to publish it as a website, for free.

How can I make sure that I am not trespassing the law in this respect? Could you please advise...

For instance, as I checked the copyright.gov official site (WebVoyage Record View 1 (loc.gov)), I have found the following details:

Type of Work: Text
Registration Number / Date: TX0005831964 / 2003-11-04
Title: New Testament Greek for beginners / J. Gresham Machen.
Edition: 2nd ed. / rev. by Dan G. McCartney / frequency list by Bruce M. Metzger / foreword by Moises Silva.
Imprint: Upper Saddle River, NJ : Pearson, c2004 [2003]
Description: 399 p.
Copyright Claimant: Pearson Education, Inc.
Date of Creation: 2002
Date of Publication: 2003-10-01
Previous Registration: Prev. reg. 1983, TX 1-325-798.
Basis of Claim: New Matter: rev. and updated.
Names: Machen, J. Gresham
McCartney, Dan G.
Metzger, Bruce M.
Silva, Moises
Pearson Education, Inc.

On the other hand, I have understood that the total duration of this book's copyright protection is 95 years - till 2019.

How can I judge this matter? Please advise...

Machen's NT Greek for Beginners was offered through community pricing as part of a 2 volume update in 2020.  https://www.logos.com/product/190741/j-gresham-machen-update-including-his-nt-grammar  It is in production at this time.

Thank you for the information; this is good news from Logos!

Returning however to my question, could you teach me how to check/make sure whether the original book (published in 1923) is now out of copyright. I would need to know this since my main goal related to this matter is to make and publish a Romanian (adapted) version based on the original book. (Romanian is my native language).

As I checked further, I have understood that, after the 95 years of copyright (original one = 28 years plus renewed one = 67 years), i.e. from 2019 on, the original book is in the public domain.

If further claims for copyright were approved beyond that date (which indeed is the case), I believe it is only the additional material that is protected by copyright.

Could you confirm whether my understanding of this matter is correct.

Thank you...
