It would be great if all settings were kept when a layout is saved or updated.Yes. This has previously been discussed in detail and there have been some improvements, but settings generally are assigned to the resource irrespective of its layout e.g. multiple copies of a resource have the same settings in a layout.
I did find that panel font size was saved with the layout but Columns was not saved when using "Update active layout" and loading the layout from Saved Layouts in the menu.
Saving your settings

I really wish that when I save a layout that it would keep all the settings just as I set them. For example, in my Translation layout, I have quite few panels and set all the biblical texts at 'None' regarding columns, and at the smallest text size possible. However, this is often messed up when I use one of the resources (e.g., NIV) in a different layout, etc. In many of my other layouts I use larger panels and therefore set the NIV (for example) at 2 columns and a slightly larger font size. This then messes with my Translation layout when I go back to it.
It would be great if all settings were kept when a layout is saved or updated.
