BUG: "Label: Before" feature of user-created Highlighting marks text incorrectly!
On the attached image...
Notice the black bracket before the bold word "according," it should be blue like the bracket following this word. Similarly, notice how the blue underlining on the word "twenty" extends under the blue quote mark, it should not do this (cf. the lack of blue underlining on the quote mark following the word).
Both of these errors occur when using a palette style that I have created which makes use of the text labeling feature before a word.
Can anyone reproduce this bug?

I'm using 4.0c Beta 2. I could reproduce the quote bug, but not the bracket color bug. However I've seen problems with the Before and After label text and it does seem to depend on what order I do things when defining the style. Could you take us through a reproducible case from start (creating the new style) to finish? Or at least show us a screenshot of the style definition with the relevant bits expanded (and everything else collapsed) as I've shown in the left panel below, and I'll try again to reproduce it if I'm not copying your style exactly yet.

Hi Rosie,
I tried changing the order in which I create the different aspects of this style. It worked to fix the blue brackets! It does not work, however, to fix the blue underlining issue. I will post again later today with the screen capture image you requested. By the way, how did you get that nice close-up screen capture? I seem to only be able to capture the entirety of the screen.

That's great! Please document the order in which you created it that reproduces the bracket problem, though, because there is a bug in here which needs to be reported to Logos. I haven't had time to play with it enough to reproduce the problem on my installation.

I use a commercial program called SnagIt which lets you capture any rectangle from the screen and annotate it with circles and arrows and labels and highlighting and special edge effects, etc. It can also snag entire web pages by scrolling them automatically as it captures. Very useful tool. But there are a variety of other ways to do it. You can capture the whole screen as you know how to do and paste it into a program that will allow you to crop and edit (such as MS Paint which comes free with Windows). Or you can use a freebie utility such as Jing (made by the same company that does SnagIt) which does just the basic stuff that SnagIt can do, without a lot of the bells and whistles. There are other options, but those are the most commonly used ones by people on these forums.

Hi again. Here's the steps I used to create the palette style which has the bug (the blue underlining and quotes). Unfortunately...I forgot the order I used to create the bug with the blue brackets in the image from a previous post....
- Within my user-created palette I right click and select "create a new style"
- Within the new style UI I name the style (ex. "definition")
- I first add the underlining, per the attached image
- I then add a label before the text, per the attached image
- I then add a label after the text, per the attached image
Interestingly, I can recreate this bug on both my 4.0c Beta 2 installation and my 4.0b stable installation. Please let me know if there is something else I can do to help!

How frustrating. This is the one I was able to reproduce. I couldn't reproduce the other one (with the blue brackets) and was hoping you remembered how you had created that one. If you ever stumble upon it again, please keep notes and post it.

As a follow-up to my previous post from just a few moments ago, I just went through every conceivable combination of steps in creating the blue underlining and quotes palette style in the image above...the bug is present no matter the order I attempt to create the style.

Yes, indeed. Sorry for the frustration. I erased the palette style with the blue brackets and attempted to recreate the bug, but no matter the sequence of steps I use the style comes out correctly. I'm beginning to wonder if the bug was a one-time deal only on my computer...a "glitch" if you will.....

there is an issue, the text before gets added to the text of the book.. so when you copy
you get [erronrous text is bold]

But suppose I were preparing a handout for a Precepts Bible study and wanted to print all my Bible text as marked up. Since Printing doesn't work in Logos yet, I'd want to copy and paste it to Word and print from there. So I'd want the markup to get copied. You can always turn off the Highlighting (via the Visual Filters menu) and copy it without the markup. (The fact that it's inconsistent now what gets copied is problematic, though: only the before/after text is copied, but none of the graphical stuff; I guess if they can't do it right, they shouldn't do any of it.)

I was just reporting it, it was an experiment, I dont usually bubbles tho I am experimenting with format for book markup
I would turn them off before I copied myself, but some folks might find that a pain

I like those ideas for HTML-like markups noting your reactions to what you read. Better than smilies and exclamation marks and question marks and "Hmm..." and such in the margin which is what I do when reading print-based books.

Even in Libronix any text added to the book by a visual filter/markup was exportable via copy and paste. So if you add [brackets] or something similar you will get it if you paste it to a word processor. So I'm guessing that this behavior is by design.

OK there is a problem,
the first bubble is taking the text color of the ajustment, rather than remaining white, rendering bubble useless
can we possibly have ability to have the font color in the bubbles user selected

Which of the bugs have you reported? The one in the immediately previous post (dealing with bubbles), the initial one I posted several days ago (dealing with underlining and quotation marks), or both? I want to ensure that the bug I reported here on the forums also gets "officially" reported.

I had missed the underlining bug; it has now been reported. (The quotation marks bug appears to be the same as another one on this forum, related to the foreground colour of Before text; that was also reported.)
