Hi there! I recognise that this is technically challenging to pull off, which is why no e-reader that I know of has been able to implement it. (Which would make Logos app industry leading!)
When I read, one way I process what I'm reading and make it easier to return to later is by writing short notes to myself in the margins.
This would be so good to be able to do in Logos.
Here's one way I can think of to implement it:
What do you think?
I asked about something similar a while back... specifically for resources which were "workbooks."

How about a "margin" mode (visual filter) for displaying annotations? This way the user can toggle between the configurations at will and based on preference or work needs.
Great idea

I bet a more technically possible way might be to simply add insert drawing to a Notes file.

Using graphics to write takes up a lot more bytes and would not be searchable. It would probably slow things down even more.

Asking the company to make margin notes of any kind searchable is a pipe dream. They can't even get their traditional notes working on the web app in a reasonable amount of time let alone taking something you write in the margin searchable.
