Do you mean macOS 10.11? If you DO mean macOS 10.12, then you should change your post to say that macOS 10.11 will no longer be supported. 

I bought my new iMac in July of 2015 which is 2 years and 3 months ago. It came with 10.10 (Yosemite) which was the shipping version of OSX until 10.11 (El Capitain) came out mid-September of 2015, just over 2 years ago.

Given the number of years you supported Windows XP, this does not seem at all reasonable. Yes, i've upgraded to 10.13, and most MacOS users have upgraded to 10.12 by now, but nevertheless, dropping support for an OS which was still the default shipping OS on Macs only 25 months ago does not seem reasonable.

Why? The updates are free, the machines are capable of running the software. By dropping support for older versions, new features and bug fixes can be implemented.

Let's see, the update from Windows 7 to Windows 10 was free. Windows 7 was released in 2009, 8 years ago, yet is still supported. In addition, having looked just now through the system requirements for many of the programs i use on my iMac, I could find NO other program which required any OS newer than 10.10. None.

An idea of what features might require this might be helpful, or what shortcoming 10.10 has which 10.11 and 10.12 do not.

As i said, I'm running 10.13 and i know of no reason that almost any Mac manufactured in the past 5 years can't run 10.12, but there seems to be a large disparity here between Windows and Mac. Apple updates their software every year, Windows updates often take 3 or more years, yet old Windows versions continue to be supported.

I wonder if they're using .Net Core for cross platform functionality.  .Net Core 1.x is only supported on 10.11 and 10.12 and .Net Core 2.x is only 10.12 and above:

I left the windows world when i got my iMac. If the reason is the .net core then i understand. That's a reason to move forward. I just haven't run across any other programs that require something newer than 10.10

Recent convert? There was a time when FL was much more conservative about making the necessary change on Mac, to the detriment of Mac users. Windows users don’t update (on the whole), Mac users do. Adoption rates for macOS are generally very high, very quickly.

Just as long as MS keep supporting the .NET version on Win 7 that Logos needs.

The oldest version of Win 10 needed for the latest .NET was introduced just 14 months ago. Win 10 version updates have been roughly semi-annual.

Windows users don’t update (on the whole), Mac users do.

Win 10 users don't have a choice, except for delaying installation after it's been downloaded! Revisions/patches to the latest version are roughly two-weekly. The version updates are scheduled for different times around the world, but we can download it manually once released.

Yeah, but nearly half of the world's computers are running on Windows 7 and only a third on Windows 10. There are more computers running Windows XP than there are macOS! As of last month, 90%+ of macs were running macOS 10.12. The only OS which has a higher adoption rate... is iOS!

For a variety of reasons our practice is to only support the three most recent versions of Mac OS.

• What sort of Mac?
• What happens when you try and start Logos?
• Enable diagnostic logging and upload logs after a failed start attempt - details at https://www.logos.com/support/mac/report-problem

Update:

We originally made this announcement well in advance of releasing 7.12. At that time, we were in the process of making the changes to upgrade our minimum version and base SDKs. However, the required changes took longer than expected and were non-trivial. We didn't feel comfortable pushing them without getting sufficient developer testing before they would ship in a beta. So, 10.10 will actually be supported until 7.14. We will update the original post. I apologize for any inconvenience.
