Media Tool
- Faceting by language in Media Tool now includes non-language specific media in the results.
Hmmm, That doesn't seem like a good idea, IF I'm understanding that right. For most, that means looking for something language specific will be like looking for a needle in haystack. Eg Spanish shows 25,392, minus the 24,588 unknown leaves 804 actual spanish tagged media. Browsing 25,392 slides looking for the 804 spanish ones doesn't seem fun. Am I understanding that right?
Unknown Language shows three times.
When I click on English, I still see Language/English in the facet browser while all the other language/unknowns i click on remove the Language facet from the browser.
EDIT: Just noticed that English is listed twice. With different counts.

Yes Randy that is a thorny question for Faithlife - My rather disrespectful congregations are continually harassing me about the quality of the 'English' in some media.
I expect to get a box of 'u' shaped biscuits for Christmas.
It would be better if one was listed as 'English English' and the other as 'Englishish English' :-)

Agreed - this seems like a very strange move.
It would be good to understand the reasons behind it.

We are aware of this one. It amounts to a data bug (some assets are tagged as 'en', others "EN"), which we should be able to solve pretty easily. We expect to have it addressed before releasing to stable. In the meantime, selecting either (or both) "English" facets returns the same results.

We are trying to be smarter about the defaults, and help the user find media with fewer clicks. The painpoint we are trying to solve is captured in the next line (emphasis added):

Media Tool
- Faceting by language in Media Tool now includes non-language specific media in the results. A language facet for your current language will be applied by default.
- All “reference” type Smart Media is included when searching for Bible references.
We assume most of our users would prefer to see assets in their own language, so we are pre-filtering when the Media tool is opened. However, we don't want to hide all "language-generic" media (i.e., mostly images with no text), so combining the generic facets was necessary.
Randy W. Sims said:that means looking for something language specific will be like looking for a needle in haystack
We anticipated this, but language-specific assets are also tagged helpfully in other ways. Almost all of the Spanish-specific assets (774/804) are Verse of the Day art, so it's a simple matter to limit by the VOTD collection.
The "reference" bullet point above is also relevant to this discussion, as we made similar changes there; when you enter a Bible reference, we now return all slides which could have that reference, not only the media which are specifically tagged with it. Again, we are making an assumption, namely that the main reason to enter a reference is to create a verse slide. It has the same drawback of returning a "haystack," but again, other facets should help with this. If this is not a satisfactory workflow, we can explore adding UI to include/exclude generic media, or ranking specifically-tagged results to the top (this would be ideal, but may not be possible in our current search structure).

Known Issue: Certain Media assets, including all videos, will display only in "Find" view, not in "Edit" view.
We are working on a fix for beta 2.
