My laptop has gone crazy, and it looks like I need to replace the hard drive. I’m planning to replace the platform drive with an SSD. Would there be any preference for a 500 versus 250 gb?
How helpful will switching to ssd be?
Thanks!
I think the price difference between the two makes the larger size a better choice. I have a 500 gb in my macbook and am at 80% of capacity but do plan to install my old hard drive as a second drive. You'll want your system software on the SSD and unless you have a second hard drive you'll quickly fill the SSD with music, photos, saved web articles, home movies etc. Even without the personal files I find I accumulate journal articles as PDFs in Zotero as well as public domain downloads of classic works.
Switching to a SSD sped up my 2011 macbook pro by what seemed to be 100%.

Depends on your Logos/Verbum library size. Logos wiki => Quick Installation onto multiple computers and => Copy Logos Resources to Mac OS X (Supported – saves resource downloading) include Resource folder location.
Personally have a Logos library that uses 112.5 GB (includes 81.25 GB for Resources and 19.28 GB for Library Index). A new SSD for me would need ~133 GB for my Logos library (space used plus adequate free space for library index duplication).
Newegg has:
240 GB Sata III SSD for $ 70.98 => https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820313865
480 GB Sata III SSD for $ 129.99 (on sale) => https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820331049
500 GB Sata III SSD for $ 139.99 => https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820250087
Noticed TeamGroup SSD is a bit faster for read/write in 480 GB size compared to 240 GB.

Noticeably faster.

I would say get a 500GB if you have the money for it.
On my MacBook Pro i have a 256GB with 160GB free Logos is the main app installed, but I have an 128GB USB that I keep other file main iTunes on so that my SSD works better.
I think it is best to have one drive if you can with every thing.

That happened to me and I was able to salvage it by reloading Windows 10 and all my Apps. The Windows tool saved my data, but I had to reload all my Apps. A real pain. Buying a new laptop would have been a lot more fun. I'm still not sure what the glitch was that caused it to lose the OS on the hard drive. I ran all kinds of tests after I got it working again and there are no errors on the hard drive. Seems to be fine. Dale Heath
