Is there a way to save a custom layout automatically to the last point I used it after I am done using it?

For example, I have a saved layout for my study of Hebrews that I use all the time.  The problem I run into, I forget to save it and then when I go to open it up the next time, it is not at my most recent point.

Hope this makes sense.  Thank you

If you switch layouts after your "done using it," Logos will save a "snapshot" for you (see screenshot).

The way I do it (and this isn't automatic) is to have a shortcut on the toolbar that updates the current layout. Type "update active layout" into the command box, then instead of clicking the command, drag it onto your toolbar and you've got a quick, easy way to update at any time!

Edit: I should have mentioned that Logos also saves the layout state whenever the application closes, so if you simply close Logos and come back to it, look in the right hand column for that saved snapshot rather than opening your named layout (you can then "update to current snapshot" on your named layout).

I also agree that there should be an auto-save feature.  Every other program has this why doesn't logos?

Hi Brandon

Brandon Black:

I also agree that there should be an auto-save feature.  Every other program has this why doesn't logos?

Because by the time I have finished my sermon prep the layout is nothing like the layout I started with.

By the time Monday morning comes round I want to start with my original layout rather than the tangle that I ended up with on Saturday Night.

If Layouts autosaved it would drive me to distraction.

As has been pointed out... one can retrieve an altered layout from 'Snapshots' and then update a used layout from that.

Mike it would be nice if Logos would save the layout. We could create our templates and save them with a specific name.  We could also create working layouts and save them. Working layouts will change from day to day but templates should for the most part remain the same. Mostly I use the same layout for multiple study sessions sometimes going over many months. When I want to begin a new study using the same layout I have to delete a lot of resources to get back to my original layout. Also sometimes my computer reboots or I forget to save my layout and close it. Auto save would be a great feature in the way that I use Logos.

Only if it was optional, a box that could be selected. I only like automatic features if I can control them.

Auto-save should be used where auto-save is appropriate e.g. notes, sermon builder ... To auto-save layouts would be disastrous for some of us. My custom layouts are designed to be a neutral starting point ...as I use  the layout it often changes to the point of being unrecognizable as it morphs to adjust to the questions my studies lead me to. It absolutely would have to be optional. When I do want to update the layout, it is only two clicks away - open layouts menu, click on update current.

Place a shortcut to the "Update Active Layout" in the shortcuts area nd it is only 1 click away. (And yes I know you aleready know this MJ Wink)

Make it an optional setting, maybe. WordSearch had it as an optional setting.

Make it an always-on feature, no way.

Hey everyone! On a related note, I just tried to auto-save a layout by using the recommended keyboard combo of "Ctrl+Alt+L" (written right next to "Update Active")

Instead, it opens a standalone Library window

Does anyone else have this happen, either because the folks at Faithlife simply put the wrong keyboard combo there, or perhaps I have some sort of wonky Logitech keyboard thing that is not recognizing my commands correctly?

Thanks!

Not much! The supplied Home Page and QuickStart layouts are indeed templates. They can be customised from your current layout but can revert to the template as supplied. And they can be saved as Named layouts (under Saved Layouts) if you wish to use them that way

The Saved Layouts are ones the user has saved. You could create templates, but they would have to be named as such to distinguish them from working layouts which can be auto-saved when you exit Logos (from options in Program Settings). They are then named as "Application Closed" and restored when you restart Logos.

When you change layouts, the previous one is saved as "Snapshot". A series of snapshots (and "Application Closed") can be confusing as you have to recognise the layout from the image and then (re)name it appropriately. But the practice is obviously aimed at preserving the named/Saved layout as a template.
