Hello,

I am creating a webpage using Brackets as my text editor and for some reason the "verse of the day" is not pulling in? Will it not pull in if it's offline and in my local folder? Thanks!

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html lang="en">
<head>
<meta charset="UTF-8">
<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1.0">
<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="ie=edge">
    <title> NAMENAMENAME </title>
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="styles.css">
    </head>

    <body>
<h1> NAMENAMENAME</h1><!-- Verse of the Day. https://biblia.com/plugins/verseoftheday -->
<biblia:verseoftheday resource="esv" width="300" height="250" singleImage="false" theme="colorbar" variant="blue"></biblia:verseoftheday>

<!-- If you’re including multiple Biblia widgets, you only need this script tag once --><script src="//biblia.com/api/logos.biblia.js"></script>
<script>logos.biblia.init();</script>
</body>
</html>

What does the URL of this file look like in the browser? If it begins with file://, the script won’t work as it is. To fix it, near the end, replace <script src=“//... with <script src=“https://...

thanks Mark,

I made the changes but it wasn't pulling through. I get an error message:

Firefox can’t find the file at /api/plugins/verseoftheday/esv?width=300&height=250&singleimage=false&theme=imagebased&variant=dark.

Looking at the plugin's code more closely, it's not going to work when the page is called as a file (file:// rather than http://).

When you're developing locally, the 'right' way to do it is to set up a local webserver, so you can do your testing using a real webserver, rather than just by accessing the files.

Setting up a local webserver is quite simple if you just want to serve HTML and JS files (it's a lot more complex if you're getting into .php or MySQL or the like).

Try googling something like setting up a local webserver on Windows (or MaOS, or whatever you're using). It's probably best to ignore tutorials that talk about Apache and MySQL, as that's more advanced than you probably need.

These two look nice and simple:

Derek,

You don't say what OS you are using. I am on Windows 10.

If you are as well, there included with it, IIS Express.

You simply open Control Panel -> Programs and Features

Click on Turn Windows features on or off

Click the box next to Internet Information Services.

Open your browser to localhost to see if it worked.

Put your file in C:\inetpub\wwwroot

Then open your browser to localhost\<filename>. It should work then.

I did it and your code worked for me.

Running on ASUS Windows 10 I7 24 gig of ram, 1 Terabyte drive.

Thank you both, I think I have this figured out.

I appreciate the support!
