Randy Hartman:

So what about the couple of Pradis/Zondervan resources I now have?  Any idea if they will serve as a credit or discount of some sort to transfer them to the Logos platform?

From the Zondervan News release

“We are going to make sure we, first and foremost, work with the many thousands of Pradis customers for a smooth transition to the new search engines,” said Zondervan’s Paul Engle, Senior Vice President and Publisher of Church, Academic and Reference Resources. ”Many of these people have been customers for a dozen years and we will make sure they are eligible for a discount to these new titles upon release.”

The Expositors commentary on prepub lists a large discount but the encyclopedia shows as list price.  I'm interested is seeing what Zondervan considers a discount.  (I do appreciate them switching to a software platform that is not likely to be abandoned:-)

Listen guys, I have nearly all this stuff in Pradis and did not spend 30 percent of what Logos is asking.  I wish I did not have to run both programs but to save $1400 I will.

Richard, the Logos Blog "press release" says:

"The difference is, they are Zondervan’s products, so they determine the configurations, collections and prices.

Zondervan has just given us permission, as recently as last week, to allow us to combine all 87 of their volumes in one discounted collection. Their main focus is on individual titles, and we do not know how long we will be able to offer the collection at the current discount. If you have been waiting for the chance to get Zondervan’s titles for Logos Bible Software, we urge you to place your pre-order now for the complete collection. "

This arrangement is not unlike the Nelson 503 title DVD or the Concordia Electronic Theological Library - Complete Collection. Logos did not set the price and can't discount anything without permission. I don't think the term "partnership" conveys the true spirit of this agreement. (Logos is not taking over Zondervan or vice-versa.) It looks more like they are travelling companions sharing common goals on the journey.

I wish there was some way to convince Zondervan, Nelson and others that if their Mega collections were affordable to the masses, the increased user base would make up for smaller profit margins and establish their line as the most popular. John Piper is more widely read because he actuallly offers his books free. When people read them and talk to others, Piper's message gets out. People will still buy his books -- probably more than before.

Now there's hope again... and integration.   Thank you, Logos... and Zondervan.  I'll now reconsider my decision...   :)

Scott,

Looking at your picture I'm wondering if your real name isn't Dorian Gray.  You're looking very young.

That is good news! I wonder if the collection will be offered as unbundled products? While it may be more expensive that's probably the only way I'm going to be able to afford it, unlless....

Hey! Anybody got a couple grand you can lend me? I'll pay you back at the rapture!  Big Smile

Okay James here is $5,000.00. Is that enough. By the way that is USD. Smile

I don't like the way Zondervan phrased their  news release, especially when they mention a "discount" and appear to consider titles that change platforms to be "new titles". I already own 90% of the resources listed in Pradis format. even a  50% discount would still be more expensive than what I originally paid for these resources.

I know that this is not really up to Logos, but Zondervan should not force current owners to basically re-buy and maybe paying even more than the original price for the same resources just because they decided to discontinue support for their existent platform

I hope and pray that Zondervan will treat it like an upgrade in engine and charge a flat fee for the user's entire collection and not see it as an upgrade of each individual  resources and offer discounts that make many Pradis users unhappy

Good news but reality check, very pricey. I have most of the titles in the Pradis format & the price tag of $2000 is no small money.

How is this "discount" suppose to work? If one purchase the item on Pre-pub now, how will this discount be applied later? I would have thought a clear statement was needed now! Very confusing, don't want to pay now & find i cannot get the discount later.

Agreed, I've had Pradis for about 6 months only because the titles weren't available for LOGOS. I've used over a dozen bible study programs over the last 20 years and have had to buy some books a few times due to program upgrades or programs being abandoned:-{  All of the books I've bought for Logos/LLS in the last 15 years still work with the current software (including some they are no longer licensed to sell). I appreciate their stated commitment that we won't need to buy books more than once.

Ted,

I do not see an advantage in signing up for the pre-pub now for most of the resources since, the it is the same as the "sale" price.

I suspect that Zondervan will handle the discount itself since Logos was not involved in the purchase of Pradis product and would have a hard time determining previous ownership (they do not require owners to register software and as far as I know they do not have a tracking system)

I will wait until Zondervan clarifies the "discount policy"

I wrote Zondervan using the email provided in the news release asking them to clarify their policy and consider the fact that none of the current owners of Pradis software want to repurchase the same resources.

I encourage all current owners of Pradis products to write to Zondervan and urge them to do right by us.

Great question!  So, I emailed them and this is what I received back:

"Zondervan is going to make sure we work with the Pradis customers for a smooth transition to other search engines. Current Pradis customers will be eligible for a discount directly from Zondervan when new titles become available. The discount details will be announced in Zondervan’s Digital Resources e-newsletter "

What an awesome news to start my day!

I am wondering, since I do own the Pradis Scholar, will there be any free upgrade into Logos platform? I wish they can do something about it...

Thank you Joan!  Your hard work made it simple for me!  PS to others: after you click "submit", you are NOT submitted.  They take you to articles that will "hopefully" answer your question.  If they don't, you are asked to "FINISH SUBMITTING QUESTION".  I am sure they think this is reasonable, but yet another reason why I have an aversion to going to their website.  I almost didn't catch that "finish submitting' button.
