Canvas

Canvas is a new tool in Logos that allows you to visually engage with the text. Insert a verse, passage, or pericope, then use the markup tools to highlight, arrange, investigate, and add notes. Break down a passage to show the relationship between clauses, and draw lines and other shapes to indicate the level of connection.
Bible text inserted into a canvas retains its connection with all of Logos’ sophisticated data tagging, which you can draw on to create rich info cards to document your research on words, topics, and more.
We've prepared an introduction to Canvas here:

The Canvas tool appears to have problems displaying Hebrew text (e.g., from Lexham Hebrew Bible). The spelling of word units (including affixes and clitics) goes from right to left, but the words are arranged from left to right (i.e., in phrases, clauses, sentences). Changing the text-direction doesn't seem to make a difference.
Are there any plans to add more keyboard support for interacting with the text?

I don't believe that Hebrew is supported on Canvas yet. I remember some discussion about this earlier, and I think that it's being considered. I could be completely wrong, and I'm sure a VIP will be along soon to give a more definitive answer.

Hey Ross,
Not at this stage. But I know it was a heavily requested feature when L8 was in Beta testing so it may be something that comes out in a future update.

You're right that Hebrew isn't supported on Canvas yet. It's not been dismissed but users will need to voice their desire for this in order for Faithlife to prioritize it. They're taking quite an iterative approach with Canvas and will develop further based on user feedback, so join me in clamoring for Hebrew support!😉

This is not currently supported but is on the team's list for possible inclusion in a future update to Canvas.

Rest assured, you are not a lone voice, DominicM. The top four most requested features from our closed beta were: layers, image import, free-form drawing, and improved Hebrew support. We did not have time to get to them within that short testing period, but they are all on our short list of things to consider for the future of Canvas.

Thank you, Alan, for that information.
FL has accomplished so much with today's rollout of new tools and features, and it's exciting that tools like Canvas will only get better over time.

Please add me to the list of those clamoring for Hebrew support. Touchscreen support too. This could be the best tool for analyzing text. Making visual connections like this is very important to me.

If you look back at the L7 release notes, you'll see that tools like the Sermon Editor were frequently updated over the course of L7.
Likewise, L8 tools will get improved over the course of L8. There's no need to skip L8 and wait for L9, simply because a particular feature wasn't able to be included in 8.0.

Will this feature satisfy the continuing suggestions to allow users to insert pictures into notes?
I didn't see a good way to group canvases, or to export them. Is there more documentation about this feature?

Can you explain what you mean by "group canvases"?
You can export your canvas image by clicking on the kebab menu (three dots on top of each other) in the top right of the canvas tool window.

I agree Canvas is very cool and just want to add my +1 for Hebrew text support!

You can export your canvas image by clicking on the kebab menu (three dots on top of each other) in the top right of the canvas tool window.
By "group" I mean:
- Make a number of canvases for 1 Timothy.
- Group them together somehow
- Export all of them at once to Word / Power Point / Proclaim....

No way to group canvases.
You can export a canvas as an image (PNG) in the panel menu (aka kebab menu or three dots on the right side of the panel).

Alan already answered this question above. However, something that may work for your scenario is the ability to add pages to a canvas. Each page could be a different canvas for different passages in 1 Timothy

Seems like there might be some confusion on the website.
At https://www.logos.com/canvas it says this:

That looks like an error. https://www.logos.com/compare/feature-sets says Bronze or above. The discrepancy is unfortunate. Faithlife will have to confirm.

Hi all, yes that is a mistake on our end. Canvas is indeed only available in Bronze and above, and we will be fixing this error on our site shortly.
Our apologies for the confusion, and thank you for pointing this out!

It would be good of Logos to allow all customers who picked up a Starter Package before the correction was made to keep the Canvas functionality.

I have been a Logos user for many, many years and just want to say that their customer service is exemplary. Thank you. What a world it would be if every company solved problems as helpfully, kindly, and efficiently as Faithlife.
One of the things I appreciate about them is they don't protect the company. They truly look after the needs of the customer. This makes me want to spread the word even more about Logos and do more business with them. It is an excellent business model and I hope it never changes. Thanks to everyone who solved my problem...beyond fair.

- Another voice for tablet/touch/pen support. This is decent (even now) on the Surface, but it would be a killer tool if Logos leveraged the variety of inputs that are available on these types of devices (Biblearc anyone...)
I have a question as well: Does anyone know how to increase the line spacing in between the lines of text within an imported passage? I played with the text settings for about 1/2 an hour yesterday and had no success.

My question is about the Info Cards:
Is there any way to adjust/customize what resources are used to generate the Word Study cards? And which English version does it automatically use for the Word Study cards?

I believe this is driven by the bibles and language dictionaries you have prioritized.

I was just playing around with canvas for a bit and I do want to commend FL on the development of this tool. It really runs smooth and does a good job of selecting/grouping/etc.
A couple things that I would ask for consideration:
- As mentioned before, an ability to add in our own pictures as well as having a Google Images picture import (similar to what Prezi [prezi.com]) uses would be great! I was surprised to find no ability for me to add in an image of a cross.
- I know we can export the canvas into a picture, but there seems to be no way of saving our canvas either to work on later, or to save a collection of them to edit/tweak later within Logos. If this feature is available, please let me know how as when I closed Canvas and reopened it, it was gone. If it is not a feature yet, this really should be added as sometimes one won't be able to finish their work in one sitting or may want to use elements of a pre-made canvas for something new.
- On that note, there should also be a "Duplicate Canvas" feature to duplicate a saved canvas so that it can be tweaked without losing the original one.

Your Canvases can be found in the Docs panel (use the left sidebar to filter by type if needed).

You can currently do this at documents.logos.com though I think it would be nice to have this within the app.
