The Kingdom of the Cults by Walter Martin is available for pre-order.  This resource would be a valuable addition to any research library.  Please consider helping it make it into production.

Scooter, thanks for pointing that out.  I realized that after pre-ordering it myself.

I am looking forward to having it available in my Logos library.

In the description it states the following:

This comprehensive new edition of the leading book on cults will equip you--no matter your background--to understand and use biblical truth to counter false religions, including many that masquerade as mainstream Christianity.”

So how do we know the author is not one of those who masquerades himself as a Christian but he’s really not a real Christian? It seems like a very presumptuous statement on his part. Not only presumptuous but a bit contradictory when it says that “no matter your background” — what background: a false religion background who wants to study other false religious backgrounds?

Maybe more information and sample pages will help this work more. 👍😁👌

I don't know what the second edition will bring, but the first edition looks reasonable. It's not a Protestant talking down on RCs or an Arminian saying that Calvinism is a cult...

Also, the first edition was edited by Ravi Zacharias, so that will probably give you a general understanding of its perspective.

Perhaps the one that might stoke discussion is the appendix section called "The Puzzle of SDA"--especially since FL sells SDA resources.

Don't forget the follow up, Kingdom of the Occult, can also be found in FLEB.  Currently at $9.99 and a steal at that price.  Glad to see the other one coming in.

here is the info on this edition (6th edition) from the Baker web site:

The Leading Reference Tool on Non-Christian Religions, Now Completely Updated!

In an era of confusing religious ideas, Christians need information they can trust. And as Western culture drifts further and further from its Christian roots, there is an even greater need for awareness of the beliefs of those around us. The Kingdom of the Cults equips readers to understand the claims of numerous cults, sects, and religions--including some that masquerade as Christian denominations--contrasting those claims with biblical teaching.

This new edition, comprehensively updated by experts Jill Martin Rische and Kurt Van Gorden, builds on Dr. Martin's authoritative original text, and includes helpful information about changes and developments in belief systems around the globe in recent years.

Readable and reliable for teachers, pastors, and lay readers alike, The Kingdom of the Cults is sure to remain the go-to reference book on non-Christian religions for years to come.

Dr. Walter Martin (MA, New York University; PhD, California Coast University) held four earned degrees and was the author of a dozen books. He was internationally known as the host of The Bible Answer Man, a popular syndicated radio call-in program in the U.S. and Canada. He was also the founder and director of Christian Research Institute. Dr. Martin died in 1989.

Thanks for the heads up. The first edition was used as a text in my Bible college when I read it thought at that time.

This book is an absolute must have! I have the 2003 Edition with Ravi Zacharias as the General Editor. It is an amazing piece of work by Walter Martin. Chapter 4 on "Jehovah's Witnesses" is off the chains!

Daniel Yoder:
The Kingdom of the Cults

This book has quite a colorful history, with a retracted edition (Hank Hanegraaf as editor, I think?), a lawsuit or two, a battle over publisher's rights, and some more interesting stuff. It's been long enough my memory isn't totally clear, so I don't have a lot of detail.

All that said, Martin was a solid source for cult material back before there was much available. I don't know much about the newer editions or who's been involved (Martin died in 1989), but there will likely be much value in the book.

My thanks to the various MVPs. Without them Logos would have died early. They were the only real help available.

Faithlife Corp. owes the MVPs free resources for life.

Has this book been withdrawn from Prepub? While I still have it as an order, it no longer shows on the website.

Never mind. It is on the Ebooks website and the order link only connects to the Faithlife website. It would be nice if the two websites were integrated. I sometimes forget.

If you are in the UK don't bother - it is not for sale for us.

How do Amazon.com manage to arrange to get contract permission to sell books such as that as long as you only want to buy one copy and other sellers are refused by the publishers?

It's a 'she' this round.

I'm hoping the New Age 'Cult' includes our powerful vortex's and ley-lines ... one goes right under our house (according to our realtor).

A book that I cant get from Logos, I can get direct from the USA with Amazon.com so in that sense they are allowed to sell single copies to the USA so having Amazon.uk.co in the UK is theoretically immaterial.

However, that fact that they are the largest book shop does implies the ability to kill a book if they don't stock it which means that they can bully the publishers if they dont play ball.

Incidentally, to those who complain about Logos prices, the paper book and the kindle versions are over $24 and $17 respectively!
