Logos 8 needs three steps to do what Logos 7 did in one. Is this an improvement?

Previously when entering a passage into the passage box, Logos automatically opened the passage guide, the exegetical guide, notes, and the parallel passage guide.  All in one quick easy step.  With Logos 8 when I type a passage into the passage box the passage guide opens.  If I want the exegetical guide (which I do) I have to open it separately and re-enter the desired text.  If I want the parallel passages guide (which I do) I have to open it separately as well; though, strangely-enough, it opens to the passage I had entered in the passage box the first time.

This does not seem to be an improvement to me.  In fact, it is a step or two backward in my opinion.  Was there a particular reason for changing what was a one-step process into a multi-step process?  Is there some way to adjust Logos * so that it opens these guides automatically?

The reason was to simplify the default passage study layout for newer users.

Yes, you can set up whatever layout you want to, then replace the default passage study layout with your custom one.

Thank you for your response.  My attempts to do as you suggested did not work.  I appreciate Logos' desire to simplify things for newer users but this is just another example of Logos 8 making things less simple for existing users.  To be honest, I am not impressed with what I have seen of Logos 8.

The Passage Study layout you need is the one under Home Page Layouts. You might need to put the guides on the same link set.

EDIT: Select "Replace with current layout" when you right-click Passage Study.

What exactly didn't work? I see that in my screenshot I was hovering over the Quickstart Passage Study layout and apparently you need to change the Homepage Passage Study layout. Is this what's causing the failure?

I have typed in a passage and went the passage guide has opened, I then obeyed the exegetical guide to the same passage, and then opened the parallel passages tool.  I then went to the layout tool and when it prompted "save as" I entered "default"  but that changed nothing when I reopened Logos.  I did the same and entered "passage guide" but that also changed nothing when I reopened Logos.  Further, I have tried three times to add versions to what opened when the passage guide opened (added version and then linked it to set A).  Again, when I reopen Logos it is the same as before I made any changes.  I can't say that I have had this much difficult modifying any of the earlier editions of Logos.

Try this:

1. open the 3 guides you want

2. use the 3 dots (indicated by blue square) to make sure the same "link set" is associated with all 3 panes

3. The red circles show that I have all linksets assigned to "D"

4. open the layouts button (indicated by black diamond) and click "save a named layout" I used "3 guides"

anytime you open that layout, you should be able to type a reference into one of the guides and the other 2 will populate with the same reference.

If you are frustrated that the layout you setup is not opening when you exit and reopen, make sure you look in the "Program Settings" to see what the "At startup Open To" is set.

Hello Billydog:  I don't know too much to help but two quick observations.  Did you go back over to the Layouts and in the menu on the left, under the heading "HOME PAGE LAYOUTS," click on the passage guide and click "replace with current layout?"  I think, from I can tell from your description, you simply saving a layout to go back to at a later date, not making a layout and saving it as your custom passage guide layout.  If you look above, I think Dave showed pictures of where to save it.

Second question is this.  Under my passage guide, I have my parallel passage tools within the passage guide.  Would it be easier for you to have it there instead of having it in a separate tab?  So for me, my custom, HOME PAGE LAYOUT has my passage guide (which has the tool parallel passages in it) and my exegetical guide.

"passage guide" above should be Passage Study, otherwise Cynthia got it right.

Hello Dave and Happy New Year!  Thanks for explaining my jibberish ramblings!  And look at me...I ACTUALLY knew enough about something to "get it right!" LOL

Looks like the OP's title might be correct. And so much easier for newbies too. Lordy.
