In "Program Settings," when I turn on YES to Copy Citations and use some crazy RIS Style to get this:

the Lord put a mark on Cain

 TY  - BOOK
TI  - The Holy Bible: English Standard Version
CY  - Wheaton, IL
PB  - Crossway Bibles
PY  - 2016
SE  - Ge 4:15
ER  -

how are you producing that? Are you just using the CBV tool and adding your own "Formatting Codes" and "Replacement Options" to get it to spit out extra info?

I'm just trying to find a workaround so that I can get the CBV tool to copy/paste in the way I want it to. The formatting options listed in the Help doc for "Creating a New Style" in the CBV are too limited. Are there extra codes we don't know about?

I want to be able to copy partial verses. Currently, I can't.

I want to be able to paste in the font of choice. Currently, I can't.

Thanks for any help!

Hi, phrogger,

"Copy Citations" and "Copy Bible Verses" are different things.

Citation refers to a bibliographic citation of where the quote came from, such as you might use in a footnote on an academic paper. Students can choose the style of citation that is appropriate for their field of study, such as Turabian or Chicago Manual of Style. RIS would more commonly be used for cataloging in an electronic database.

Copy Bible Verse "styles," on the other hand, refer to styling the formatting of the text of the verses. I quickly reviewed the Help article, and it seems complete, though it may help you to review the wiki article which has additional examples. I'm afraid we don't have options for copying partial verses or setting the font at this time; if you are pasting to MS Word, it might help you to use its Paste Options to match the font to the surrounding text.

Thanks, Adam!

I was wondering if Copy Citation and Copy Bible Verses used the same mechanism -- because I noticed that Logos is customizing the the font when copying citations (for instance the "Harvard" Citation Style copied the Bible text in Helvetic and part of the reference in Times New Roman) -- and I can copy partial verses when coping as citation.

Since "Copy Citation" can spit out partial verses and various fonts, why can't "Copy Bible Verses" be made to do the same thing?

phrogger:
and I can copy partial verses when coping as citation.

You Copy text you have selected, and choose whether or not to have a citation, plus its style. Copy will keep source formatting and include the citation you specify as a footnote. When you paste into the destination, a word processor may provide further options for formatting (keep source format, merge with destination), whilst a text editor will only accept text.

Copy Bible Verses is aptly named, because it copies the (full) verses you specify e.g. Jn 3:16-18. As a tool it allows you to convert source formatting to a standard format from different bibles, and then it utilises Copy. If you want partial verses, edit the text in the destination.

Thanks, Dave!

I want to be able to keyboard-shortcut-COPY a partial verse and keyboard-shortcut-PASTE what I copied plus Scripture reference.

Seems like a very simple but highly useful feature. Logos doesn't currently offer this.

A citation style can include the reference for your keyboard-shortcut-COPY, but you have to accept its limitations. If you want the reference with the bible text, you have to use CBV
