I have built and uploaded an incorrect version of personal books. I deleted the books in the personal books, However, I still see the books in my library. How do i actually delete the books in the library? Thus I can rebuild and upload the correct books. I tried to reinstall the logos, but the issue still exists. Please help and advise. Thanks a lot.
Hi Chris - and welcome to the forums
Once they are uploaded I don't believe there is a delete option.
But "hide" effectively deletes them - why is that not sufficient?

Chris Chan:Thus I can rebuild and upload the correct books.
Can you create the new book with the same name and thus overwrite the incorrect version?
Mac Logs | PC Logs | Install
You can then edit the book and change its name.
Hello Chris,
I have gone back and forth with Logos regarding this many times. I have tried everything. There is no way to delete uploaded personal books. You can only hide them.
Gavin Murphy:There is no way to delete uploaded personal books. You can only hide them.
That is the same way it works with purchased resources. Apparently, once a book is uploaded, it is treated in the same way as other resources. Separate programming for Personal Books would be an unnecessary complication of the code. Hiding the book effectively deletes it.
just want to see any completely "clean" option. Thanks Graham.
Yes. I can edit it,
Thanks very much Gavin. it seems no way to delete it, but hide it.

Wow, this is amazing (sorry, Chris). Was it Logos5 and 2011 maybe, where they brought back personal books, after they took them out of Logos4 in 2009. Then, people struggled to delete their personal books, since the coding didn't coordinate the obvious ....two ways to delete. After umpteen complaints about that, they then made it impossible to delete uploaded personal books .. when, maybe 2016? And now, we're headed for L9. and 2020?
I think it's neat, a user may have personal 'stuff' in their personal book, and Bellingham now owns it. I really ought to fix my bad humor.

Er... ah... Essentially the question is one of whether or not the unique id of a resource, specifically a personal book resource, is reusable. FL decided, reasonably, that once a unique id is assigned it is assigned. Period. What is less common, is that the user may reuse that unique id however they wish (a) ignore it in hidden (b) convert to a blank resource and hide it (c) change the source file and metadata to use the id for a new resource. What FL owns is knowledge that the unique id has been assigned and cannot be reassigned - ever - ... sort of like social security numbers if there were never any glitches - you die, you still keep your SSN.

Ah, but the hapless erstwhile owner must remember the secret, or else ....
If a user has such secret personal stuff, why upload it to Bellingham? If you want to keep data secret, don't share it.

Graham: I have tons of resources that I’ve had to hide. I mean A TON (other languages, Latin, etc., etc., that’s I’ll never use). That being said, my question is this. Does Logos have to index them even when they are hidden? I would think having hundreds (yes, hundreds!) resources that are hidden would be taxing on the program, when it would be so much better to just be able to delete them.

Note 2 in the hiding books section in the wiki - https://wiki.logos.com/Hiding_Books - has:
"Whilst resources are removed from your library their entries remain in your Index. Use the command rebuild index to remove them, but it will take several hours to complete"
so to eliminate this, it may be worth rebuilding your index

Is that correct?

They will not be visible in your library neither will they be on your hard drive and will not participate in indexing.
So they aren't actually "in your library" but they are still unlocked to your account - so if you want to reintroduce them to your library you can.

No resource is indexed unless there is a new version. But resources that you have hidden, or resources that became unlicensed (Connect monthly preview resources) still take up space in the Index. Rebuilding the index will remove them, and you will have a smaller Index.
Hidden resources are still licensed, so they are "technically" still in your library (if it was a physical library, you might hide them behind the other books!). But unlicensed resources are totally removed from your library (the owner would re-possess the books that were on loan to you).

Interesting take on what I wrote. Have you considered applying for a job at the New York Times or CNN?
Probably now need to beat myself with a wet noodle
