Does This Mean We Are Losing Our Free Original Starting March 1, 2019?

Ben Amundgaard (Faithlife):

Hi all, Having read through this thread, here is what I understand the primary questions and/or points of confusion.

Thanks, Ben, for clearing up the confusion! That answers my questions.

Personally, I'm not very excited about losing the value of owning the 12 Original books a year. I don't think that +2 Classing books and a 25% coupon is equivalent to the same value. I would understand if FL stops producing Originals. But, I'm guessing that FL will keep producing more that I would like. Would it be possible to turn in your 25% coupon for a free original? Big Smile I think not. Hmm...I'll have to consider the value of Connect vs. Just upgrading to a 8 Library.

Thanks, Ben!

Happy to hear that the Classics list will be expanding, and that No Library subscribers will also receive the new libraries.

It's more practical to get licenses for many Original titles, than waiting each month to select a free one.

(The only minor comment I have is that the store won't show that we have a temporary license for those Cloud resources. We might not want to buy something at a discount, if we knew we had a temporary license for it.)

Hi Ben,

Thanks for your response and clarifications. Two questions:

- The middle link (Essentials) is broken. Can you please fix?

- On the FL Connect pages, under "Titles in this Collection," there are many items that are un-owned but have a Value of $0.00. Why?

Thanks,

Peter

My only request is that FL makes finding classics easier.

I have been using this for quite a while and am satisfied with it. You can change the search parameters.

I'm OK with the changes because frequently there were no Originals that I didn't already have or wanted.

I'm wondering what the 25% discount will apply to, Lexham ME products?

For some reason, the hyperlink breaks every time I put it in. For now, I've just added a text link.

I have a large library and subscribe to CE(NL) and always purchase, rather than rent. I only have 4 temporary licenses. (1) BS mag. vol.10, and (3) books by Haight that appear to be from Verbum.

Thanks Dale. That search does the trick.

Bottom line: NO more Lexham Original.

Not cool... you could take away all 3 Classics & 25% (which you have to spend $$) ...Free Original is way better offer.

Free Original >>>>>> 3 Classics + 25%

What you mean is: NO more "free" Lexham Original. Not cool...

Now you can choose "any" Lexham publication (perhaps ME) and get 25% off. You get to choose from "all", not just a short list. So, if one you want is on sale (many aren't) you may get a bargain. I'm on the fence on this until a few months down the road.

I am on the fence.  If this means they are going to continue to slowly increase the Lexham Press books they will let subscribers lease then I think that is a really cool deal.  If they slowly and continually update every few months and give us a temporary license to the Lexham Press books that to me is what should be happening anyway.  This would be positive and negative for users.  Unfortunately it means you must continue to pay to have access to a great library of books, but it does give more value to Faithlife Connect because more books are being added on to our subscription plan.

However, if this means that they are not regularly adding Lexham Press books to our temporary licensed Faithlife Connect service and we are only getting a coupon this is disappointing, because $19.99 a month is a pretty high price to pay for some people, and they may have chosen that price so they wouldn't have to spend any more a month and still be able to increase their library.  (This is my boat).

As it is, I realized how much money I was spending monthly on those highly discounted bonus books each month, and I just can't spend $19.99 every month and then buy a $1.99 or the third book, no matter how good the deal is.  So getting 25% off is just not enough discount.  Maybe if it was 50% but that is still going to be hard on peoples budgets.

Again, this is only a problem, in my opinion, if they are not regularly updating the service with new Lexham Press Temporary licensed books.  Which, as I read it, I assumed that IS what they are planning to do.

"25% off of a Lexham order"

There's an ambiguity on that quote from Ben Amundgaard

If you could only order from Lexham website, that means, you can't choose from "all". That website isn't the same as Logos.com website.

look at these... (there are 2 pics from 2 websites)

.

above is different from bottom...

.

Depending on where we can buy from ... it still doesn't mean "all"... because (1) it wasn't specified whether we can buy from a certain selection like how they offer free Original, or (2) we can only buy from Lexham Faithlife site and not Logos main site.

.

Now... I don't like spending money JUST BECAUSE it was discounted... otherwise I'll be going to the mall every month just because EVERYTHING is 25% off on sale. Guess what, when everything is sale 25% at the mall, nothing is really on sale at the mall. I'm sure you've heard that one before. Plus we don't know yet whether the 25% would stack with other discounts that would be active.

Having a Free Original is much better because it offers more value and no money spent. Even with 3 additional Classics.

Ben Amundgaard (Faithlife):

Hi all, Having read through this thread, here is what I understand the primary questions and/or points of confusion:

  1. Has there been a change to the free ebook benefit?
  2. Will the list of Classics stay the same?
  3. Did I receive new books on January 1?
  4. How does this affect FL Connect Essentials (No Library) subscribers?

------

  1. Beginning March 1, you will receive a code valid for 3 Classic ebooks and 25% off of a Lexham order rather than a code for 1 Classic and 1 Original.
  2. We are expanding the list of Classic ebooks that qualify.
  3. If you had a subscription to a Connect plan with a library, you received additional books on Jan. 1. These books comprise the new Cloud 3.0 libraries. Anyone who subscribes to Connect after Jan 1 gets access to these libraries rather than the old cloud libraries. Those who had a current FL Connect subscription on January 1 received these libraries in addition to their existing Cloud libraries. You can find the list of titles here (you would only have downloaded the books you do not already own):
    1. https://connect.faithlife.com/products/168690/faithlife-connect-starter
    2. https:/connect.faithlife.com/products/168691/faithlife-connect-essentials
    3. https://connect.faithlife.com/products/168692/faithlife-connect-premiere
  4. FL Connect Essentials (No Library) subscribers did not receive the new books on Jan 1. They will receive the new libraries when we change the ebooks benefit on March 1.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Thank you Ben, I appreciate the prompt response.

I’m with Andrew and the others that will experience this policy change as a clear loss of value. Leasing a book is not the same as owning one, and these changes make it effectively impossible for a new or tight-budget Logos user such as me to build up a library in Logos without either paying extra each month or staying subscribed on faithlife connect indefinitely.

What frustrates me the most is how this is changing the benefits of annual subscribers without warning or discussion. When I signed up for the subscription I was purchasing 12 classic ressources, 12 faithlife originals (they were never “free” but part of the purchased package) and leasing Logos 8 full-feature, a medium-sized ressource library and access to two courses for a year. The annual subscription is still pretty expensive on my budget, but my logic was that, even if I decided to quit Faithlife Connect, I would still own a fair number of recent ressources at the end of the year. Now I’m learning I will actually only have 4 instead of the 12 promised. Bummer.

I’m locked in for another 7.5 months regardless so we’ll see how this goes, but as of now it seems unwise for someone in my situation to continue using Faithlife Connect once my year is up.

You're right! Sorry about that.

It's 25% off a single order per month on Lexhampress.com.

The lexhampress.com website is not very funtional. Doesn't support &unlocked=no and I can't find a way to only access the 375 books offered from Logos.com. Also, Lexhampress.com doesn't show the book format (digital vs print) in the listing unless you select the individual book. It's not good the way it is now.

If you bought a L8 Base Package, you might see how much your membership saved you, plus your 2% "cashback" this month. I think those things alone will make it still a good value for most people.

After looking at the 375 titles, the only way I would think this change was a benefit to me is if the 25% discount could be applied to the pre-pub prices. Is that going to happen?

I agree with the above, plus I have gotten a few good free surprises from time to time (not sure if those were Connect related or not). I also like the 3 free Classics. So, this change really doesn't affect me very much. What I don't like is that these changes are being made while I'm still in my subscription period. They should not be made for me until my subscription is up. It's like breaking a contract.
