How to search ONLY article titles in my dictionaries collection?

I'm trying to find the correct way to search only the titles of a dictionary collection I've created... when restricting search to a field, it only shows me Footnotes, Author and "Surface Text" (not title as per search results).
Is this possible? Am I the only one that sees this as a huge gap?

No, it's been a subject of quite vigorous debate. This post has the official Logos word on the question, though if you have time to read the whole thread, that could be helpful. When Logos has completed the work they want to do, I'm sure searching will be even better than ever. In the meantime I believe they should have allowed L3-style topic searching so at least we have something. Unfortunately, Logos don't agree.
You can use the field "title" in your search for some dictionaries (i.e. title:jesus). In theological journals the field is "heading". But the fact that title is missing from the drop-down suggests that none of the resources in your collection support that field. The dictionaries known to support the title field include:
- The Archaeological Encyclopedia of the Holy Land
- Baker Encyclopedia of the Bible
- Harper's Bible Dictionary
- Holman Illustrated Bible Dictionary
- New International Bible Dictionary
- Tyndale Bible Dictionary
- Zondervan Encyclopedia of the Bible

You can also capitalize the first letter of the word you are looking for and click "match case" in the search drop down box. It's not a great solution, but it will yield better results than just typing the word without the capital. Good luck!

I feel like I've just had all the air sucked out of the room. . . makes having more then one dictionary pretty much useless.
I'm not interested in "topic" searches. I just want to look for a word form in dictionary entries. . . how utterly sad.
Thankful at this point that I didn't put all my eggs in the logos basket!

Are you looking for article titles(headings such as "Preface"), or dictionary headwords("Adam", "Tabernacle")?

Are we talking lexicons here, or Bible dictionaries?

Not sure I understand what translates to a "dictionary headword", so I'll give you an example of what I'm looking for:
In a collection of dictionaries (specifically do NOT want most of what's in my library, about 25 resources in all), I'm looking for a dictionary entry/article of the form "gentle*" . . . So I'll get articles that contain Gentle and Gentleness in their title, but possibly never in the article's text. For example, I would only see the GENTLENESS article/entry on page 405, and not the other 23 results in 18 articles.... I only want the single "article" (or at least what I think you're calling an article).
The interesting thing to me is that if I instead go to my bible, look up the word gentleness, the right click and do a lookup, it will give me what I need for a single dictionary... but not for the collection of my choice.
I just want to be able to do a "Lookup" on a collection, for a word that may not occur in a bible text (think theological terms).

You can lookup a word in your dictionaries by typing look up gentleness in the command bar of Logos. It will open the dictionary that has the highest priority and has an entry on gentleness. You can't restrict to a particular collection though.
Once you have that entry, you can click the parallel resource sets icon, and you'll see a list of all the other dictionaries that also have that entry.

Whew! The air appears to have re-entered my room!
Thank you very much Mark. I very much appreciate your answer (as well as your videos).

A bit more air. Customise Bible Word Study guide as follows:
For the Definition choose a collection of your bible dictionaries.

Thanks Dave,
I've been playing with a custom word study guide, but it doesn't seem to like manual entry of some words. For example, it would let me enter and search on "gentle" but not "gentleness", but if I go to gal 5.22 and do a word study using this custom guide from there on that word, it works just fine.
Thanks again for your help!

I think you discovered a bug, which could just be an aversion to certain "fruit"! But it is a bible word guide and should accept all bible words and bible dictionary headwords (like 'trinity').

I am suspicious that BWS thinks that gentleness is a form of gentle and is going back to the base form.

Yes, that is what the BWS is doing. It does the same for "run" and "running" (though not for "ran").
The resultant search depends on your "Use all Word Forms" setting though.

This is the other side of what BWS does with a more complete template than my word Definition.
Its Textual search results are based on matching "all Word Forms". But when you run its Text query the results will depend on your setting if you re-use a Search tab ie. "Send Searches here". If you don't do that you may get the expected results. So that's another bug for BWS!
EDIT: the results depend on settings in the last Search! This is confusing because nobody really knows the last search they did and why should it be relevant? See http://wiki.logos.com/Bug$3a_BWS_does_not_correctly_re-generate_its_Textual_searches

I don't agree. A bible word study should accept all bible words, not bible dictionary headwords. Just because topic searching doesn't work properly doesn't mean we should use BWS for a purpose for which it wasn't intended.

We don't really know for what it was intended (even after the recent discussion with Sean) but the word bible is suggestive and restrictive enough to exclude words from non-bible dictionaries! Also, I can select headwords in bible dictionaries and get a BWS definition.
EDIT: Further, there are words in my preferred bible that cannot be entered manually.

Yes, I use that way of looking up the dictionary entries. Than I cycle with the right arrow through all other dictionaries that have the entry. I would also appreciate however the possibility of doing that kind of search in the main search window.
EDIT: I appreciate it works with many words already.

This is by design. Most of the sections stem the word so the autocomplete options are limited. For a BWS on a specific word, right click on that word in the text.

But that means if you're just curious about a word out of the blue, you've got to do a search to find it in a Bible text first so that you can right click on it. What if I just felt like doing a word study on agape and it wasn't in the BWS autocomplete list? (That one is, so not to worry; but there could be examples of other words that are missing, which one might want to study without having a resource open where they're looking at an instance of that word.)
I know it's by design, but I'd like to see this design revisited.

This will be fixed in Beta 4, so that when you're using the "Send searches here" option the existing settings will be cleared as appropriate.

Melissa, the fix in 4.0d B4 does not generate a search on "All Word forms" for words like "Gentle" and "gentleness".

The fix covered your other report on the textual search links reusing previous search parameters--it now opens a search panel with defaults: All Bible Text, All Passages, and the "Match case" and "Match all word forms" options on the panel menu disabled.

The wiki I quoted above was marked as fixed - that referenced this thread and explicitly quoted those examples as being incorrectly generated.
