I've been working back through the trio of Verbum Advanced Training videos (Academic, Search, Homiletic) from Fr. Roza and Fr. Dalton. These have been invaluable for getting more out of the software and my library.

My primary uses of Verbum are original language study and reception history in the Fathers.

I'm wondering how worthwhile a subscription to MP Seminars would be at this point. Obviously, his more up to date videos include Logos 8/Verbum 8 specific content. For those who have viewed both, have you found the MP Seminar videos helpful? In what respect

Any thoughts are appreciated.

I'm not nearly as advanced as you in what I am using Verbum for, but I did use MP Seminars Online for a 2 month period to view all of Morris' videos on Logos 8 and did find them helpful for understanding the changes.

There are a lot of fairly short videos like the intro to the topic, etc. which I didn't find especially helpful.  And when he describes a particular tool, there may be multiple videos on how to access it from the various menu's, e.g., the tools menu, the right click menu, etc.  The videos end up being similar, with the difference being how you access the tool.

But you can always cancel it and so are only committed to paying for one month at the most.

Thanks for the reply - you make a good point about only being out a month's cost at most. I will probably give it a go once school lets out in a few months and I can set aside the grading and turn to my own projects for a bit.

I don't get involved at all in the languages aspects of Verbum (no background in Greek or Hebrew), but I do use Verbum extensively for volunteer teaching of 6th/7th graders who attend public school and come once a week to the local parish for religious education in preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation.

In that context, I have used the two training series by Frs. Roza and Dalton and appreciate them greatly--I plan to reexamine them now that I have gotten endless helpful details from MP Seminars on how to use Verbum/Logos 8. I can't say enough about the available videos: They opened my eyes and my mind to the amazing ways in which Verbum/Logos can be used to suit my study-style and research needs.

I also found that my "test" to see whether MP Seminars would be good for me was painless and almost costless: I signed up for a month (19.9x) and studied the videos extensively and intensively during the 30 days, with the thought that I could get almost all helpful information in a first month. I did learn enough amazing details that I could have stopped after that trial month, but the current availability of even more videos and the believable promise of upcoming videos caused me to sign up for a yearly subscription. We'll see what happens after the first year.

Here's how I approached the videos: I had/have my own ideas about what I want to get out of Verbum, and I viewed the many product-feature video modules to see how the relevant feature(s) could aid me in my desired outcomes. I also learned about new valuable outcomes that I hadn't thought of in my earlier use of Verbum.

Having said all that, what I like best about the videos is that they help me learn better how to use the Verbum feature more productively. The videos do not help me much in learning how I might better do my class-preparation and other personal research. (I.e., I suspect they would not help you much with the substance of your language studies, etc. Nevertheless, there are fascinating details in the videos about how to delve deeper into the Greek and Hebrew texts, topics that I passed over only lightly.)

I hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply, Joseph.

Having invested pretty regularly in my Verbum library for about 3 solid years, I want to get the most I can out of the functionality of the software. I will probably give the MP Seminars a go sometime in the near future.
