I did the minimal recommended install to save some time and get ready for class Sunday.  Now that I have everything ready, I’d like to download the rest of my library and data sets.  How do I do that? Thanks in advance for the help!

All your datasets will already be downloaded.

To download the rest of your resources:

    1. Open your library.
    2. Make sure the information pane is open.
    3. Select one book.
    4. Press CTRL+A to select all the books.
    5. Click the button at the top of the information pane to download the remaining books.

when I follow those instructions I do not see an option to download all remaining books. did this change in the an update? there should be a button in program settings to do this more easily.

when I follow those instructions I do not see an option to download all remaining books.

If it tells you only how many resources are selected, then you have all of them on your computer!

If you click the Sidebar icon (left of the input box in Library), and look under Devices, do you see an entry for "Not on This device", as that will state how many remain to be downloaded?

    Welcome to the forums!

I have the same problem. I'm using a new MacBook Pro and it won't work.  Can someone please help?

Please explain in more detail exactly what the problem is that you have, what you have tried and what happened when you tried it, etc. Right now I have no idea how to help you.

Thanks Sine.  So, I have been trying what Mark explained but I haven't been able to get all of my resources downloaded to my new computer.  I can open Logos 8, but my library when I open it will flash a message that is in tan saying "indexing your library" then it disappears.  Several of my resources within the library appear to be downloading but they have been frozen in the downloading process. others haven't started downloading at all.  I have left my computer open for days and they still haven't downloaded.  It's been really frustrating as this has never happened before. Usually there is a blue Logos logo at the top of the Apple pan that indicates downloading or indexing.  And it will say 4hrs on it.  Been having a ton of trouble this go around.

I have LOGOS 8 and the instructions to download ALL the resources are the same as what you stated,BUT in step 5. you just have to right click anywhere in the highlighted books and IF there are any resource NOT downloaded, you will see the download , click on it, and ALL the resources will download. Blessings.

That is an alternative way. But the Info panel will tell you how many will be downloaded e.g. 12, out of 16 selected.

    1. Open your library (by right-clicking on the Library icon then selecting "Open in a new tab")

    2. Make sure the information pane is open (by clicking on the ⓘ icon)

    3. Select one book (by clicking anywhere other than the title, which would open the book)

    4. Press CTRL+A (on PC or CMD+A on Mac) to select all the books.

    5. Click the button at the top of the information pane to download the remaining books. (In this screenshot, only two of all the books are not downloaded.)

(If you do not see a download button, it means that all the selected books have already been downloaded to your computer.)

PetahChristian thank you very much for your patience with me and your detailed explanation. Only 220 resources have been initially installed. However, there is no indication of the rest of 3,011 resources that are needed to be installed as indicated in the photo.

  • PetahChristian
    PetahChristian Member Posts: 4,635 ✭✭✭

That screenshot's selected resource has already been downloaded.

Graham showed you how to filter your library to only show the resources that are not on your device. Did you click on any of those resources and see a Download button in the Information pane?

I agree that it's not very intuitive.

Was there some issue or discrepancy regarding one of the particular steps? Which step didn't work?

Below the selected resource is blank. I supposed there is where the 3,011 resources that needed to have been. The discrepancy is in the selected of the resources that are not in the device. The bottom line is I'm having difficulty locating where to select the resources that needed to be downloaded.

No, that's just a visual issue, probably unrelated to whether resources have been downloaded or not.

(Those details should appear in the library eventually. Logos may be busy indexing, etc., which is slowing down the display of library information.)

The bottom line is I'm having difficulty locating where to select the resources that needed to be downloaded.

In that screenshot, click on any of the visible lines to select one book, then press CMD+A to select all of the books, then click on the Download button in the Information pane.

That should download all 3,011 resources that haven't been yet, and you'll get to 0 not installed on this device.

It was getting too complicated. I uninstalled Logos and reinstalled it and now all the books are installed. I did not notice the option for a complete installation the first time. Thanks for your help.

I was having the same issue on a laptop as Eric. I was trying to save hard drive space ona. computer my daughter uses for homeschool, but the result is that things don't work as expected. So I'm trying to get everything downloaded. I think I'm going to have to resort to just uninstalling and reinstalling. It would be helpful if there were an after-install option to change the installation type to all-resources-downloaded.

Instead of a Select All for resources Not on this device, followed by right-click and Download?

I have Verbum 8 and I thought I downloaded all of my resources when I installed the program.  I'm searching for a reverse interlinear and found none in my Library.  I know I own several.

In fact, when I go to the Bookstore, I can't purchase them because I already own them.  Where in the world are they?  My Library is updated & sync'd.  Can anyone please tell me if I'm missing a step some where?

Yes on the laptop my daughter was using this took multiple attempts over a few days to actually have work. I thought I was going to have to uninstall and reinstall. Basically the select all, right click, download process

    1. Isn't as obvious as a toggle in settings to change install type to complete install (which then might allow the option to offload resources in the future if drive space is needed).

    2. Seemed to tax the app so much that it went unresponsive for the first multiple times I tried it. This was on a 12" MacBook, which is admittedly a pretty weak device processing-wise...and my library has about 17,000 resources, so it is possibly an extreme user case. But it was incredibly annoying to accomplish, didn't provide expected feedback that download had begun, locked app most of the attempts, and then when it finally did start download required a few different restarts before it finally completed due to further locking up of the app.

I would see a toggle to "Complete install" being helpful because then a dedicated download-all screen could be popped up possibly decreasing the tax on the system of trying to run the Logos functional interface while also downloading so many resources.

I just think that if I was having such headaches accomplishing this, I would imagine others might as well.

...and my library has about 17,000 resources

Thanks, Jacob. I can see why you would want that option.

Because many other users have been caught out, the primary fault is that "Recommended" is the default for the installation process. I would suggest that Faithlife improve the presentation of alternatives e.g. multiple buttons, so it is clear that there is a choice between Everything and Recommended.

Yes...and then allow a simple means to change your install method.

It would be nice if there actually were a button to download all resources at the top of the information panel on the macOS version.

    Hi Mark

I don't have a 'download' button in the information page and the download button in the book preview is completely unresponsive. I am running Logos 8.14. Any ideas?

    Thanks

Mark's post was for an earlier version of Logos... I don't know if his answer still applies. In any case, here is what it should look like:

Is there a way I can download all my books and materials to a hard drive or external drive?  I am not enjoying Logos at all and I was wanting to try and install all my books and Materials I have purchased to another Program if that is possible.

Welcome to the forums Wade and best wishes (and Bible Study) for the New Year.

Here you will find many long term users ready to help you get the best out of the resources you have purchased.

Is there a way I can download all my books and materials to a hard drive or external drive?

Technically yes.. but not in a usable format.

I was wanting to try and install all my books and Materials I have purchased to another Program if that is possible.

Logos resources are tagged and annotated to work with Logos bible software. They are not able to be used by any other program as far as we know.

That said, most, after a short but steep learning curve find Logos an efficient and effective research tool. Is there a particular aspect of Logos that is spoiling your enjoyment?

I picked up this line from what is effectively a double post...

Even with over 1600 books and Materials, it is not a good working program

What is it that you are trying to accomplish that Logos fails so badly at?

I am not enjoying Logos at all and I was wanting to try and install all my books and Materials I have purchased to another Program if that is possible.

The books are all in a proprietary format usable only in Logos or Verbum. You will not be able to use them in another program. A better approach is to tell us what program you want to use instead and what you want to do in that program. Then we can direct you to the easiest way to achieve that in Logos. By telling you exactly how to use it, we can spare you the overwhelming number of options that can make Logos appear difficult to use.
