On the iPhone, it will give you the option to call on phone. Desktops do not have telephones.

Not sure about Windows, but macOS does support Continuity to initiate (or answer) a call from the desktop.
That's actually what's happening on the iPad, since that particular iPad isn't a cellular model, but it can make a call by relaying it through an iPhone.
Please note that I'm not suggesting that the (macOS) desktop telephone number should also be blue, simply because blue on red would represent a poor contrast choice.

I do not have a mac (yet), however, I do have an ipad and realized the same thing. I have been enjoying the benefit of responding to a text message from my iPad although the iPad is a wifi only model. [:)]
