I am studying 2 peter. I would be very glad for your suggestion which and how I could use the features of Logos 8 and would be very helpful as well your recommendation of vital resources for this study.

Blessings in Christ.

Hi Tes

One place to start is in the Factbook Tool - with each section providing different insights into the book

Hope this helps to get you started, Graham

Hi Tes:

You will probably get different opinions according to specialty and tradition, etc.

It would be helpful if you could describe your objective according to your needs (for preaching, for application, for devotional, etc.)

As I am not an expert, I will mention some resources I would use for general overview and identification of key themes:

https://www.logos.com/product/174852/james-1-and-2-peter-and-jude

From the introduction to the "Teach the Text" series:

"Overview

The Teach the Text Commentary Series gives pastors the best in biblical scholarship and presents the information needed to move seamlessly from interpretation to communication of each book of Scripture. The six pages of focused commentary in each preaching unit allow pastors to quickly grasp the most important information in each discussion. Every unit of the commentary includes the big idea and key themes of the passage and sections dedicated to understanding, teaching, and illustrating the text, along with full-color images."

Unfortunately there is no 2 Peter in the following series:

https://www.logos.com/product/26371/lexham-research-commentary-1-peter

Not sure if the resource for 1 Peter could point to key thrusts that Peter seems to be concerned about for people to grasp.

Then you have:

https://ebooks.faithlife.com/product/39011/living-with-discernment-in-the-end-times-1-and-2-peter-and-jude

Good for inductive study.

Finally a good article by Dave Moser:

https://blog.logos.com/2014/06/how-do-you-use-logos-dave-moser/

superb for application ideas.

Hope this helps.

Hello Tes:

Morris Proctor posted a tutorial on the Concordance tool that shows cross-references that connect Old- and New Testaments in a way I had not seen before. It even shows allusions, which are not as obvious as direct quotes.

Tes,

You might try one of the Workflow Templates. Also there are user created templates that are available in the Public Tab in the Documents Tool. You might find a template that will suit your needs.

You may want to consider:

https://ebooks.faithlife.com/product/38985/discover-the-bible-for-yourself-helpful-introductions-to-every-book-practical-approaches-for-study-applications-for-everyday-life

There was an inductive workshop in Faithlife, it was on the book of Philippians, and it was really good.

https://faithlife.com/precept-philippians-study/activity

They recommended to use some of Kay Arthur's books.

Maybe some of the books can be useful for your inductive lesson planning.

Hi Tes:

Good to hear you found some gems.

If my memory serves me, there is also a course from the Logos pro team that go into detail for Bible study, and they touch inductive study also.

You may have it according to your package:

https://www.logos.com/product/56518/learn-to-study-the-bible-with-logos-matthew-4-1-11

It is very complete, and it even has resources recommendations for various steps of the study process.

One that really caught my attention was:

https://www.logos.com/product/27277/new-dictionary-of-biblical-theology

There are many other recommendations, that are good to browse to see if they fill your study needs.

Peace and grace.

Concordance. When I am starting a new book study, especially for teaching, I like to run the Bible concordance and analyze what words the writer uses most often. It takes a little work sorting through the irrelevant terms (and, but, though, he, she, etc), but once you hone in on those important nouns and verbs, it can bring a wealth of knowledge.

Bible Word Study. I then do a Bible Word Study on the top 5 or so words used, looking for particular contextual nuances that might be glean from the author's usage of those words.

Application / illustrations. I have a collection of books with illustrations, devotionals, and application commentaries (IE: Courson, etc). I usually search for the particular Bible passage I am studying in this collection, to see what others have written in terms of illustrations and application.

Try experimenting with the "Omit common stopwords" option

Thanks Graham. It's funny....I can't tell you how many hundreds of times I have used the Concordance and never paid attention to that option. Just goes to show that there is always something new to learn about Logos! Thanks for sharing.

Try unchecking "Omit common stopwords" - if that doesn't work I'd suggest starting a new thread and providing screenshots
