Is there a way to set up this Devotional as a weekly devotional on the home screen?

Welcome to the forums, Michael!

Michael Boyle:

Not directly. Oden's ACD does have a lectionary index (actually three of those), but no calendar days associated - and Logos currently doesn't support liturgical calendar days.

What you could do is using a layout with a lectionary of your choice, such as RCL, and the ACD put into the same link set, so opening your lectionary to this week's readings will position the ACD to the proper Sunday

I put them both as link set A but the ACD doesn't move when I scroll up and down.

Hm. they do for me. Did you use the ACD Volume for Cycle C? It scrolls along for me and even automatically opens other year's books when I locate RCL there, but maybe it needs to start with a match in the dataset

Since someone asked about this in a Faithlife group, I'll share our conversation:

Qurestion:
Why is this resource not compatible with the "Lectionaries" or "Daily Devotionals" features?

My Answer:
It actually is "compatible" with the lectionaries, in that it uses the same index as lectionaries do, even more than one (BCP, RCL and the Catholic Liturgical index - I think it follows RCL readings closely, see the green arrows in the screenshot below).

It can't be used directly as a lectionary as it doesn't have a non-liturgical calendar index (Year Month Day - see orange box below) as lectionaries do. You can use your preferred lectionary, as an example I took the RCL, and put the ACD into a linked set with it (the "B" indicated with the red box in the screenshot). Navigating the RCL to a calendar date will automatically position the ACD to the respective liturgical date.

NB.Mick, thank you for sharing the work-around. I still think it should be directly compatible with the Home Page "Lectionaries" or "Daily Devotionals" features.

At the moment that would be considerable work for FL to maintain. If they separate the lectionary/ordo functions then it becomes easy and as users we should demand it.

I agree. I don't see why the couldn't ask the user what calendar week they wanted to align it to.

Michael Boyle:
what calendar week they wanted to align it to.

Actually what they need to know to align it is:

  • the date of Easter
  • the rule for time between Pentecost and Advent (i.e. is it built from readings based of following Pentecost or preceding Advent)?

On the surface that seems like it would be a simple solution but under the hood it is not always as simple to implement and so while it may be doable the work involved means issues like this don’t get prioritised as there are work arounds. Personally I don’t bother with the home page and use a layout alone for my daily reading so the workaround is fine for me but I hope the Issue is resolved for those who rely on the home page.

Unfortunately, the recent building out of a bunch of lectionaries for many years weakens the case for creating proper ordos.

But the addition of the Eastern Rites and Messianic Jews packages and the ongoing addition of languages strengthens the case . . .

Oh, certainly. Apparently lots of German Protestant pastors preach out of a lectionary Faithlife doesn't even have.
