Is there a "quick" way to move my Verbum 8 installation from a Windows 10 system to a MacOS system?  I'm only seeing seeing instructions on the Wiki that go from Windows to Windows or Mac to Mac.

Perhaps. If you have the ability to copy the resource files, place them in a folder on a drive. See if it can be read by the Mac. If so, try using the scan method.

Verbum (and Logos) resource files are identical on Windows and Mac. Logos wiki => Quick Installation onto Multiple Macs includes Copy Logos Resources to Mac OS X (Supported – saves resource downloading)

File & path naming conventions are different on Windows 10 and macOS (along with user interface graphics) so technically cannot "quickly" move an installation across platforms (will not work).

I do not quite understand your post. If the user copies the resource folder on to a WINDOWS formatted drive (since the Mac can read a windows formatted drive, but windows can't read a macOS formatted one), will the "scan" method work?

I'm willing to give it a try.  I'm not clear on what folders I would need to copy over to an SD card (trying to figure out the size of card I would need).

There seems to be a number of folders listed on the wiki in various steps of the processes listed there.

Sorry but I have to ask...

Is there a reason that you are reluctant to simply let the program run, say overnight. and give you a fresh download of all your resources etc.

I know that in theory (and in practice) I could go through all the machinations of copying and scanning but whenever I change computers I just take the easy way and sleep on it.

It's a bit more complex, but you can share folders between a Mac and a PC and just scan the PC's Logos folder over your WiFi connection: https://www.howtogeek.com/191116/how-to-share-files-between-windows-mac-and-linux-pcs-on-a-network/

However, when I did this a few weeks ago, I decided it was easier just to let the download run overnight. I only get 15Mb/s, but it was done by the morning.

Folder (singular). It is the "Resources" folder:

This method involves Indexing whilst avoiding the resource download.
Please read Before you Start carefully.
Note: Your Logos folder name could be \Logos, \Logos4 or \Logos5, depending on when/how you upgraded.

  1. Backup the ...\Logos\Data\randomId\ResourceManager\Resources folder from a working installation to an external drive

Thank you all for the options.  Let me spend a little time thinking through how it might be best for me to do it.  I have some technical capability, but not a super-techie Smile  Let me get the software downloaded first and go from there.

Oh!  I forgot to ask … when I downloaded the Mac installation package and clicked on it navigated me through a couple of questions making sure it was OK to do that since it was downloaded from the internet (versus app store, I guess).  And once I gave to OK to do that, the verbum icon is bouncing away on the dock. Is that how it should be as the app is being installed?

Although I've been in the technology industry for 35 years it's all been mainframes and servers and Windows - programming and project management.  I'm feeling like I did when I first got started back in the 80's.  The new kid!  It's kind of fun Big Smile

Thanks again!

Yes. Also can use network shared folder for copying files in the Resources folder.

Default Verbum location on Windows for Resources folder is C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Verbum\Data\random\ResourceManager\Resources

Custom Verbum installation on Windows changes path C:\Users\username\AppData\Local

Verbum install => https://verbum.com/install includes written directions for dragging Verbum to desired folder on macOS before opening Verbum.

Logos Help Center article =>  https://support.logos.com/hc/en-us/articles/360020137252-Install-Logos-Bible-Software-Mac shows Logos application on macOS (Verbum is similar).

Suggest clicking on bouncing Verbum icon: a dialog box is waiting for your response: e.g. sign in with your Faithlife account OR choose resource(s) to download

OK.  I don't have an SD card large enough to put my /resources folder on to.   I have the app downloaded.  How do I initiate a download of my entire library?

How do I initiate a download of my entire library?

One option is opening Library, followed by choosing Device filter "Not on This Device"

For entire library, can use Edit => Select All (or keyboard shortcut command-A)

If want subset of Library, can use command click to select individual resource(s)

After desired resource(s) are selected, right click on a selected one shows a context menu, which has Download (click Download to initiate resource download)
