When using tags to select Bibles, how can e change the order in the Text Comparison tool? I tried changing the titles by prepending them with the publication dates. Apparently that didn't work.

You select bibles from the drop down and then order them by dragging:-

Drag the bibles under Resources to change their order.

If you specify a Collection of bibles, then they will appear in alphabetical order of their title. The only exception is the base bible, which can be one from the collection e.g.

  • LHB                       -----> base for comparison
  • Hebrew Bibles         -----> Collection of bibles including LHB.

I don't know about L8, but in L7, you have to re-start Logos for Text Comparison to use edited titles.

Just this week, I took KSFJ's idea of assigning 1611 to the Cambridge Bible .... nothing happened (Text Comparison). Then I remembered.

In L8, I re-do the comparison with newly edited titles after running a different one.

Thanks, Dave. I had used tags rather than a collection and received the dreaded 'There are no results for this reference...' message when selecting my tagged resources and thought that perhaps the first one checked did not have the supplied reference. So I had hoped that determining how the system orders tagged resources for comparison would help me make sure that the base Bible was the one that had the reference.

However, you mentioned that the Bible should appear in alphabetical order of their title. That does not appear to be the case. I tried prepending the publication dates to the Bible titles, hoping that they would appear in something close to chronological order. They did not.

Should I give up on the tag route for this particular project and run toward collections instead? Any suggestions?

You can't rely on any ordering with the collection.

Just add the one you want first in addition to (and in front of) the collection. It doesn't matter if it's in the list twice. It'll only show up once, and will be in the first position.

Don't be confused by the Abbreviated Title which is used in TC. They appear in order of their full Title (edited or standard).

Mea culpa earlier ... I edit both the title for sorting (as shown in library) and abbreviated (as displayed in TC).

Dave, I have renamed both Abbreviated Titles and the Full Titles and the order still does not look like alphabetical order. Here's a small example.

...and here's a picture of some of these in my library.

The order in text comparison does not match my library when ordered by the full Title column.

Are you specifying the comparison as a collection of bibles? Show the selection list of your TC

There is no guarantee of order with a Collection. Dave is incorrect about this. If you want a specific order in Text Comparison, you will need to manually select and order all the desired Bibles.

Thank you, Andrew. I will try to set it up accordingly.

I was only selecting a tag, like this.

Wow, that's a bit of a mystery. The only thing I can imagine, is you're on the Mac side, or Verbum is different?

I am on a Mac, so that may account for some difference.

Well, if so, I guess that's fair warning .. I was planning to Mac-ify early next year ... you never know .... computers may be the real spread of the virus. Ha.

The app.logos.com refuses customer titling and the mobiles seem to ignore (hard to say). Library management is a biggie for me ... L7 may turn out to be my final.

Apparently so.

On Windows (as per my signature line below) with both Collections and Tags, bibles are sorted in order of Full Title, and I edited a few titles to be sure it was doing that.

Well, Dave, you prove me wrong. It turns out that for the scenario you describe, it should indeed be sorted by title. This should be true for Collections, Tags, Ratings, and Series. I wonder if the behavior was different in the previous version of the Comparison tool.

However, I think it's not true is if you are using a dynamic collection, where you type something in, then select the # resources with x option at the top of the list.

There is nothing I can see that would cause the behavior to be different on Mac, so there is likely something else causing a problem.

I've written up a case to investigate this.

I didn't know about that, as I had to scroll up to actually see it! It only selects resources and replaces the current list, so I don't understand your point about using a dynamic collection.
