Ben Amundgaard (Faithlife):
We wanted to get these books out and available to Wordsearch users as soon as possible. Rather than wait until the book was a complete Logos resource to ship it, we decided to batch create and ship Faithlife ebook versions that we will update to Logos resources. These ebooks will have basic functionality but not all the tagging that comes in a Logos resource (because they are batch produced, they could contain typos or strange formatting). We will begin work immediately to update these resources. We plan to have them all updated by the end of 2020

Hi all,

I wanted to provide a quick update on the status of updating Wordsearch books to Logos editions. While we planned/hoped to have these updates complete by the end of 2020, it's looking like we probably won't make that date. The process is going to be a bit more complex than anticipated and our production pipeline is a bit fuller than we expected.

We're going to prioritize upgrading books with heavier markup and deeper integration in the software (reference works, commentaries, etc).

I'll keep you updated as things move forward.

Thanks!

Thanks, I'm sure everyone has their "pet" but I have to make a shameless plug for "Thompson-Chain Reference Libraries"
I know the interest in forums has been significant, and many of us who own it in Wordsearch12 are missing it

I always thought it was an over ambitious timeline for the resources to be done correctly. Thanks for updating Ben.

I write a lot of sermons.  It helps me to have access to illustrations regularly.  I noted that these have not being started on yet:

Hi Ben,

How about getting the remaining WS books at least into Logos ebook editions? Is that still targeted for end of the year or is that delayed also?

Thanks,

Peter

I appreciate the number of resources already converted.  But  I have noticed that many are coming over without authors being added.  When I was searching for a number of books by author they did not show up.  I then found them later by title and no author was given.  It does not appear we have the ability to add this kind of data to the books.  We are only allowed to change or add tags.

Complete Biblical Library: Part of this recourse has transferred to Logos. The New testament books have not shown up yet. Sparkling Gems form the Greek 1 hasn't shown up yet but # 2 has.

And titles, short titles, and series. All those won't help when you filter for the author-field, but should be mentioned. But if you get more precise and add a list of books and authors, Faithlife may correct the metadata of these resources (mostly eBooks in my library) quite easily.

Thanks for update, Logos is a challenge to me to learn, it is nothing like Word search, and I am overwhelmed, but trying to patiently get it.

Be encouraged Samuel.  I felt the same but dived into the videos they pointed us to.  It feels much more complicated because Logos is at least 10 times more powerful.  But worth the effort.

When I was downloading Logos, it said the program was 3.5 GB whereas Wordsearch is about 350 MB, a huge difference!

Greetings Samuel

I think you will find that the program is quite small - the 3.5 GB will be the contents of your library.

Being a former WORDsearch user, I am starting to get my head around the differences between the two software programs.

I am looking forward to your Logos/Faithlife teams getting all the WORDsearch books transferred across and I do appreciate that these things take time.

I was involved in lobbying to get Christian radio in the UK and from the first local MW/AM station being licenced in 1995 to them be being allowed to broadcast nationally on DAB took over eight years so that listeners outside London could hear their programmes. So I can be patient!!

I look forward to the Open Your Bible Page By Page - OT to join the NT edition and for the complete The Passion Bible - NT, Psalms, Proverbs & Song of Songs to arrive, as currently, I keep having to go back to WORDsearch for the parts of these books that are not yet in Logos.

Blessings and keep up the good work.

I’ve used Thompson Chain since 1983. So I fully get why people like it!

I also do NOT "have an ax to grind" about forcing WS users to adapt to Logos--I have used BOTH programs for nearly 2 decades.

i realize Logos has a steep learning curve and those who have become comfortable in the WS system have familiar workflows. Here is my personal opinion (you are free to disagree!) WS built largely on the organization system of Strong’s numbers and Thompson’s cross-reference.  The metadata that Logos implements through reverse Interlinear makes searching on the actual Hebrew and Greek words possible. Logos also has robust cross-reference database and thematic tagging that overlaps Thompson’s original goal in creating his chains. I am NOT standing in the way of getting resources based upon the Strong’s and Thompson’s systems! I just want to suggest that Logos has other tools that can lead to very similar final products if one is willing to learn new paths.
