9.0 SR-2 (9.0.0.0181) is now available
The Logos Bible Software desktop application version 9.0 SR-2 is now available to all Logos 9 users.
To immediately update to the current stable version, enter the Update Now command. Otherwise, the app will automatically update the next time it's scheduled to check for updates.

Philana,
Still no update notification in Logos itself (the little blue circle) when I update. I actually updated before this thread and didn't know what the SR-2 contained!!
This is the same on 2 separate computers (a laptop and my surface pro).

Same for me. So I downloaded the application and did a manual install.

You might check your version ... mine updated to SR-2 without any notification at all that it was updating, so maybe your's did too.

In my case, I was just notified that I was downloading 209mb of updates. Looking at the ”about” section confirmed it was SR-2

Thanks for your reply.
Yes it updated on my systems too but my point was as you confirmed ‘without any notification at all’.
Logos used to notify users of any and every update (application, resources, datasets etc) via the notification icon (little blue circle). It works fine for resources but not for application upgrades anymore (as far as I can tell - and now others seem to be seeing the same). Hence it is a bug that Philana needs to look at!
Thanks again and every blessing.

I'm glad users are notifying Philana about unexpected behaviors. I'm a little different from James' experience. I got a "blue dot" notification when the application updated to SR1 and asked if I wanted to restart. But SR2 updated without notification. I'm able to find the release notes in these Forum posts (thank you, Philana!) but understand why users who don't frequent the forums would desire "blue dot" release note links.

We are aware of the release notes issue, but we're not sure why this is occurring.

Thanks for the confirmation!!
I look forward to a solution when you have tracked it down.
For reference (to link to your case):
It doesn't seem to make a difference whether Logos has been running for a long or short time.
It happens on all my systems running Win 10 Pro with latest updates
I didn't get the 'blue dot' notification for any L9 updates (but worked fine for new resources and datasets)
Not sure how much help that will be. I'm willing to try anything you suggest.

Was this functionality perhaps disabled for secret pre-launch beta testing and then accidentally not re-enabled?

I turned off automatic updating back with version 8 when I still was stuck with some dinosaur machines. I still have this in effect. Logos 9 has updated flawlessly since 8.17 SR-1 on Monday morning. Three times is charmed[8-|]

The "download link" in your post goes to a page with the sub-heading "How to Install Logos 8 Bible Software."
And when I run the LogosSetup.exe there, it says I'm already running the latest version. And I'm on 8.17 SR-1, 8.17.0.0014.

That is correct. Access to the Logos 9 beta installers requires the purchase of a Logos 9 package.
A free Logos 9 package will be available sometime early in the new year.

Andrew,
Thanks for solving the confusion.
Now please go one step further, and correct Philana's original post which says "version 9.0 SR-2 is now available to ALL users." (my emphasis).
That will help everyone immensely!

Hi Andrew,
Ah yes, I see Philana's original post now reads "now available to all Logos 9 users." That really doesn't help though. The title for this whole thread is "Version 9 is now available." Well, that's not exactly what it says, but that will be how many people will understand it, unless they read to the very bottom of this thread, and see what you wrote.
What you wrote in your post should be in the very top post, something like: "Version 9 is available ONLY to people who buy a version 9 upgrade. The free version will be available some time in 2021."

Hi Andrew,
Even better than my last couple of suggestions: Make a brand new post with that basic information that Version 9 is available only to people who buy the upgrade. Then make it so that post remains at the top of "Logos 9 Desktop App" forum. So it will always be the first thing people see when they come to the version 9 topic. (Probably do the same for
That way, you don't go through this hassle every time a new update notice is posted.

No, we saw this occur earlier, but we still do not know why they don't show up since nothing changed in the code as far as we can tell.
Until then, once you get an update you can always find a link to the current release notes in the forum announcement. I try to make that post sticky until I ship the app again.

Thanks for your suggestion, Bruce, but I don't think a brand new post is needed. It's already pretty clear on Phil Gons's announcement post that Logos 9 is available only for purchase:
Phil Gons (Faithlife) said:I’m pleased to announce that Logos 9 is now available for purchase online, over the phone (888-875-9491), and by email (sales@logos.com) in English, Spanish, German, Portuguese, Korean, and Mandarin Chinese (Traditional and Simplified)—with French coming in 2021.
I've also edited the pinned "Logos 9 Features" post in this forum for added clarity:
Adam Borries (Faithlife) said:Some features will be free for all users in Logos 9 Basic (coming in Q1 2021)...
Thanks for chiming in.

So what your saying Adam I’d users have to know about and have read another post to be clear about this post. C’mon that is ridiculous. Why are you not wanting to be transparent on this post ? Show a bit more respect to all Logos users than what you are showing right now with this display of attitude on a simple request to ensure official FL posts are clear as to who the intended audience is of the post. Just because your not impacted doesn’t mean you should dismiss the concerns of a user who is impacted. Disappointed in your response to say the least.

Hi Adam,
Thanks for your thoughtful reply. I think the message to users still needs improvement.Let's look at things from the point of view of the user, not an expert and not someone who has thousands of posts on the forums. User sees the promotions for Logos 9. Even the program itself, in "About" has a red flag which effectively says, "You're missing the bus! Click here to Get Logos 9." Which takes User to the website where User can buy Logos 9, starting at the "bargain" price of CAN$428.
User says, "No, I just want to update to the latest version. I don't need to add even more resources which I never use." User sees on the header on every page of the Logos website, the prominent link "Download Logos." User clicks on that, and finds the download for version 8. User thinks, "What? Clearly the person they hired to keep the website up to date is having a nap. A very long nap."
So User goes to the Forums to see what others have found. "Aha! Here it is: 'Logos 9 Desktop App.' Excellent!" [Notice that User never even thinks about looking at the "General" forum, where Phil's announcement is cleverly hidden.]
User sees the title "Logos 9 Features," but thinks, "No, I don't care about all the fancy tricks. I just want to keep my system up to date." So User scrolls down until she finds "... now available."
Which is where this whole thread began. I'm not making up some crazy and unlikely story. I'm describing exactly what happens to ordinary users, as you can see in some of the comments in this thread.
So, once again, I'm asking Faithlife to pin a post at the very top of the Logos 9 Desktop App forum, a post with the title something like: "How to obtain Logos version 9."
Now THAT is something that everyday User will see and read!
