It appears that the passage guide displays the short title for books rather than the long title.  Prior to Logos 9, the passage guide would display the long title.  In my library, I have edited the long titles of my commentaries to reflect the commentary ranking in bestcommentaries.

My question is this: is there any way to shift the passage guide to display the long title for books (especially commentaries) rather than the short title?

Other than by deleting the short title (which is only possible if there is no default short title, i.e., the short title exists because you made one), no.

But you can edit the short titles.

In addition, editing the Series will cause the Series to display in the Passage Guide rather than the short title.

Thanks for your reply

As far as I know, every book from Logos comes with both a long title and a short title.  Each can be edited.  Having edited a few hundred long titles, I'd like to have the passage guide default to the long titles when commentaries are displayed in the guide.  It would be disappointing to have to repeat the work I've already done.

They all come with a long title. They do not all come with a short title. For example, The Eerdmans Commentary on the Bible and N. T. Wright's Mark for Everyone do not come with short titles.

I sympathize with you. I've already edited dozens--possibly hundreds--of commentaries' titles, short titles, and series since I got my hands on Verbum 9.

FL made design choices in Logos 8 to cater for users of smaller screens, e.g. 13” MacBook Pro, at the expense of users with larger screens. It seems they have done that again here with this decision. I would much rather see the long title like you. Short title useless to me.

My main bugbear is that there is no consistency. If I pull up the passage guide for Luke 3:1-20 I get a random mix of short and long titles.

Along with consistency, I would like to see the alternate title displayed in the pop box when you hover over.

I did the same and would love to have the guide use my own edited titles.

This bugbear should be quickly squashed ... unfortunately, I can't find the post from FL that gave the rules and Dave's minor correction to it. As I recall there was even a mention of SBL standards on series abbreviations.

I know it is a bit pedantic but the user design architect inside of me always seems to wake up to this kind of thing.

Nice to hear that FL is looking to squash this. Still hope that the series abbreviations have a means of finding out easily and intuitively what they stand for.

Yes thankyou. And I see from that post that I can get the details of the resource by hovering over its icon.

How do you edit the series?

Open a Library pane, select all the books you want to change, make sure the Info pane is open, and change the Series in the same way you would change the title. (You may have to scroll down to see it.)

As someone with a small screen (14 inch) I often feel like Faithlife forgets to design Logos with small screens in mind. I just had to report an issue recently that only affects folks with small screens yesterday.

Many of the standard beta testers run multiple or large screens - I suspect we need more small screen users to test.

If this little 14-inch laptop of mine wasn't my sole computer that I can't afford to replace I'd be a beta tester myself. As it is, I've decided to heed the warnings to not install the unstable versions on my machine. Every now and then I'll install a release candidate if there's a fix or enhancement I've been waiting for (as I have done with 9.1 RC). But I don't install the beta versions.

Maybe they should make their developers use laptops. I bet they all have big fancy hi-res monitors. lol

Of course they do, but they also have (their own) portable computers.

Do the edited titles not make their way over to the Logos iPhone app?
