I thought I would love the new Dark Mode in L9, because I have dark mode on my tablet and phone, the color chime on my PC is dark and these color schemes are just much easier on my eyes. I also prefer lower light areas to read e-books, so dark mode works much better.

So why do I not like L9’s Dark Mode? Because it is GRAY. This is a similar problem to when they first came out with their notes tool. Everything about it (for the most part, except for a few minor glitches) was great—EXCEPT, that the default font color was GRAY. And, it became frustrating as well, because the Notes tool kept WANTING to change back to a gray font for no particular reason. What made it more non-sensical was that all other resources opened with a black font. Logos finally gave in and succumbed to logic and made the default font color black.

So, here we are again with a great new concept in L9: Dark Mode. Everyone has been asking for it. Most of the folks who have Logos also use the tablet/phone versions (which have a perfectly working model of dark mode). So, I must ask the question (the same question I have asked Logos concerning the gray Notes Font): Why use a gray background? Whey take a perfectly good paradigm and change it ever so slightly to “make it better” by making it worse. The new dark mode is actually MORE difficult for me to read—especially in low light. And in bright light situations, it’s nearly impossible for me to see. I’ve switched my laptop back to normal mode, because I always use that in bright light and am considering changing my desktop as well.

I love Logos Bible Software, and have been using it since its earliest versions. Their developers have also been generally responsive to new features and ideas. But this is another case in which they took what should have been a great (and easy thing) and made minor tweaks to it—thinking that it would be a great idea—and ended up making it no so great.

Thank you for giving us Dark Mode. But.... Please make it black!

Thank you.

I hate dark mode personally but it looks black to me. Are you seeing something different? BTW this is the first time my app has been in dark mode.

It looks black to me too

but I can make it grey by adjusting my screen brightness...

Sorry, the screen capture doesn't do justice to the actual difference.

Bottom left - Photoshop black. Bottom right - Logos gray, which matches the background of the upper "dark" mode. When I desaturated the image (let the reader understand), the darkest part of Logos dark mode is about 70% gray, with the slighter lighter portions about 60% gray. So, while it is "dark" it is certainly not black. For my part, I would prefer black, not gray.

Don't have L9 nor DM, but this is obviously a feature that should be adjustable by the user.

I never was looking for a dark mode.  But if I was I would have to agree with you Greg, this is not black. Screen shots others have posted have done nothing to change my mind about even giving Dark Mode a try, it looks awfully difficult to read, much more difficult that light mode so my installatin will be remaining in Light Mode.  Hopefully though Dark Mode does improve from here for those who find it, or the concept at least, helpful.

Screen shot shows macOS 10.15.7 black background with menu bar being a darker shade of gray than Logos 9.1 Beta 1:

Go button gray background could be changed to dark green for a bit more consistency along with improving contrast for readability:

Verbum 8.17 SR-1 has white background for active tab with gray for inactive. Google Chrome in dark mode shows black background on active tab while inactive tabs have a gray background.

Here's my Dark mode mockup with a black background that I posted in another thread.  I suggested that an option should be given on background colors just like the regular mode.

It's definitely gray. First thing I noticed. Not sure why they choose to make it that way.

Personally I'd love to be able to do dark mode with gray text. The white text is too bright.

I find gray text too hard to read.. it blurry. Black text is easiest for me which is why my Logos install will never enter dark mode.

I personally don't have a problem with the "dark" color on my Mac, in fact I have it set to Dark Mode all day.

But for the record, if it matters, it is NOT black. I used a color detection program, pure black is RGB 0,0,0, the "black on my Mac is 0x1F, 0x24, 0x2C. A dark grey probably, but definitely not black.

(Note - the cards are less black - 0x29, 0x2F, 0x39).)

I would like to use Dark Mode but I too find the white letters to be almost phosphorescent and red lettering to be very phosphorescent. So much so that it hurts my eyes and it hurts my eyes after a short while in dark mode.

I would love to be able to use either the light-grey or the light-light grey and make it act like dark mode. It's a lot calmer experience but in light-light grey mode... when I open a book or anything.... then that book or whatever goes back to white background. I would like when I am in light-light-grey mode that everything I open or use would also be in light-light grey mode... not just my initial opening layout.

A better option might be to allow users to choose what the white and red lettering and the background dark might be. Just saying...

So Logos worked hard to put in dark mode...but now it's something, that I personally cannot use as I don't like my eyes hurting. Sad

But... I do think when Logos devs people get time (will they ever? Tongue Tied) then Dark mode will be fixed. Smile  It's still a great idea!!
