In Logos... One has to use the Sermon Builder (SB) for a lot of things.. One weakness of Logos and SB is there is no place or keys to just copy a verse into SB...   So, I use good ole Zipscript for the task and it works just fine!  Hope Logos doesn't get rid of Zipscript!!!

Xnman,

Type in the bible reference in your sermon document.

Right click on the bible reference and select insert verse and it should automatically insert the text that you have selected and place it on its on slide.

Logos does have a tool called Copy bible verses. Go into the tools panel and you should be able to find it.

However, like many I do love the Zipscript tool from Wordsearch. I hope that it has a future in Logos software.

I also would like to give a plug for the instant verse study from Wordsearch.

You select your bible reference.

Then you select the books that you want Wordsearch to get information from for you.

It goes through all of the books that you selected and pulls information related to the passage of Scripture you selected.

Finally, it automatically creates a document for you to paste into your word processor or you can place it into Microsoft word (etc.) and make a personal book out of it and send it to kindle so that you can read it through the kindle app.

Logos, please keep the Zipscript and Instant verse study tool from Wordsearch.

 Smile

Thanks Jesse Blevins!

There are some things that I use that I am so used to and it feels so easy that I would love to keep and Zipscript is one of them. While I can insert into Sermon Builder and some things in Logos the Logos way...  Zipscript does so much more like email, online programs, etc. And it is very easy and simple to use...

I'll also plug Instant Verse Study. I still go back to WS and use it. Loved it.

But thanks again for the heads up in Logos features.

Xnman,

Your welcome.

Since your new to Logos I would like to recommend www.learnlogos.com  to you.

It's a great training resource. I just consider the money that I spend on these training products as buying back time in my work week and saving myself from unwanted frustration.

The best offer available is the course in which he provides in detailed training over every feature of the software.

I wish you the best in your Logos journey.

It has been said over and over in other threads when the transition first began, but the squeaky wheel gets the oil, and Zipscript is a very valuable tool for ministry online in all of the various social media outlets.

I don't know if the Logos Team is listening, but I will continue to repeat myself on this issue until it is heard.

In His Love and Service,

Peace

Not that I have ever used Zipscript, but from the description, it seems to be an OS based gadget rather than being integrated into the software.

If this is the case...

is it multi-platform? (ie are all those calling for it to be maintained Windows users?)

is there any reason that the Logos Team should become the developers (ie why not a third party?)

Mike Binks....

Here's what I see with Zipscript (Zs).   I think Logos would do well to make it work with books, etc in Logos. If Logos does "farm it out" to a 3rd party, then WS users and maybe even Logos users should be "grandfathered in" or have use of it.

Zipscript works with anything I have that I type into.  Logos currently does not have that capability.  Many people use Word Perfect or MS Word or some other word processor to type their sermons into rather than use WS or Logos. I once was like that myself.

Zs works with all of them and with email, with Logos Notes or anything you type into in Logos and with any internet browser I have used, Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Edge, Avast, etc.  In this way, Zs is like no other... you can format the copied text different ways...

I think it's needed for the above reasons... I know I will certainly feel a loss if I were to loose it.

But right now it works for me and works well. I would like to see Logos spend time on getting this transition from WS to Logos done before anything else. Get all the users on the same playing field so to speak - Logos. Then maybe Zs might come into play.

just my 2 cents... which with $2.50  will buy a cup of coffee in some places. Roll Eyes

Curious how Zs compares with Text service "Replace with Passage" on macOS ?

Logos wiki => https://wiki.logos.com/Smart_Tags

My reply includes Pp 4.4 (below) that was selected then used "Replace with Passage" Text Service in a web browser on macOS 10.15.7 (desktop app was open, which used Copy Bible Verses formatting for passage, which included pericope)

Originally coming from an engineering background, Apple products were like taboo. So, I don't know how Zs works on apple... but I would surmise it would work well. Since WS is part of Logos, then Zs should be part of Logos and because of that you might be able to download it and try it out. It's a very handy piece of software.

Right now.....If WordSearch is not on your machine...then ZipScript won't work. ZipScript links into the Bibles on WordSearch.

I run Windows.... Have WordSearch on my machine....and ZipScript works for me. I use it regularly. I use it with MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Logos Sermon Builder, Logos Notes, etc.... I know it doesn't work with Passage Lists...... But I did use it today (in Sermon Builder) and it worked for me. Love ZipScript!!!!!

I am praying Logos will incorporate it to work with Bibles in Logos.  Seems like they own the code now.... maybe just a matter of linking into Logos Bibles instead of WordSearch Bibles..... I hope, hopea hopea hope!

It's own my wish list....

Here's the rundown about ZipScript, InstaVerse, and Logos' current options, and some feedback:

1. ZipScript was produced by Wordsearch. It's Windows only (never ran on Mac).

2. The current Logos alternative is "Copy Bible Verses", but it only runs when Logos is running. Close Logos, and it goes away. It would be great if Logos made a version of "Copy Bible Verses" on steroids that incorporated the functionality of ZipScript, plus allowed it to keep running with Logos wasn't running. The older Copy Bible Verses feature of Libronix and DVI in LLS were a little closer to ZipScript since they had tray icons, but they still quit when Logos/Libronix/LLS isn't running.

3. InstaVerse had some similar functionality to ZipScript, but the main feature was it allowed for Bible popovers in Word docs and websites.

4. Logos offers Smart Tags in Word, but I don't think it does Bible popovers in Word. There's also Faithlife RefTagger which offers Bible popovers in websites, but the website has to enable it, whereas InstaVerse was global. It would be useful if a downloadable version of Faithlife RefTagger was offered that could add Bible verse popovers to word processing documents and websites that haven't server-side enabled it.

But that is so cumbersome compared to two clicks and it's done with ZipScript.

Hey Mr. Binks,

ZipScript is sort of what we used to call a "Background Utility" back when PCs first started running more than one program at a time. If it's use is selected and chosen to run at start up, It resides in the taskbar, waiting for it's call to go to work. It's not an OS based gadget but an actual small, stand alone Utility program originated by WORDseach in the days before Lifeway bought them out.

It's cool in that you don't have to type in scripture references. Just highlight the passage(s) that you need and send them where you need them, email, Internal word processor, Word, Powerpoint, etc.

I don't know if "App" programmers are up to the task or not.  In my eyes, Apps are basically not much more than a Utility program with pretty back grounds and pictures, not actual programs that do much integrated work. But some might be up to it. If they understand what the original source code is designed to do.

Logos, since they bought WORDSearch should be able to integrate it IF they are motivated to.

Logos is such a top heavy application that I don't really like using it. When it takes what used to be considered a "Super Computer" and a fairly fast internet connection to run it, it's too heavy. Especially for text based books. The relational data base must be most of the  overhead, I'm not sure.

If you haven't used WORDSearch on a PC, you have truly missed out. Even Quickverse is much lighter weight and faster than Logos. I first purchased Quickvers in 1989 with the KJV and Strong's. It came on 5 1/4 floppies, 14 for the program and 20 or so for the rest and there was no internet yet available to the public. On a 33 Mhz 286DX with a 40 Mb HD, it was fast, loading, in searches, and all other uses.

Speed doesn't really matter once you have what you need to read. But switching resources should not end up with 7 or 8 books or resources opened up that you never asked for or need, and still haven't found the reference that I needed, which is what I always end up with when I use Logos.

I sent screenshots to the other post like you asked.

Shabbat Shalom

I am puzzled by this statement - I have never had that happen and can't figure out how to make it happen. I suspect there is some fairly basic function that you are not using or are misusing.  Can you provide an example?

Anybody who had ZipScript when using WordSearch on Windows should still be able to use it unless they have deleted the WS installation.
