I just learned the hard way that the Update Active command (when added to the shortcut bar) does not update a custom Quick Start layout. To do the update, one must open the layouts menu and again choose Replace With Current layout.
I'm not sure if there's a reason for this...the preferred behavior (I would think) would be for Update Active to update the custom layout.
My thanks to the various MVPs. Without them Logos would have died early. They were the only real help available.
Faithlife Corp. owes the MVPs free resources for life.

Not sure it is a BUG. More likely it's a programming choice. I just would have made a different choice. :-)

I had no problem with this and the layout was saved when I exited Logos.
Did you name the layout?

Dave Hooton:Did you name the layout?
Of course not. It is already named. In this case it was the "Bible and Commentary" layout. If I change the name, it won't show in the Quick Start area.
The desired behavior is for the Update Active command to update changes in the listed Quick Start layouts as named.

Update Active only updates the current named layout that is in Saved Layouts, so it is independent of QuickStart Layouts and Home Page Layouts which are designed for use with the GO box layout commands; where the customization is intended to give you a layout more suitable to your needs.

I disagree for the above reasons. How are you using the "QuickStart" layout?

This makes no sense, Dave, either from a programming standpoint or (more importantly) from a user's standpoint. If the QS layout *could not be customized* then fine...makes sense. But since the user can customize the QS layouts with the dropdown on the layout, it makes logical sense that the layout should be updated with the Update Active command. Why are multiple steps necessary when one would work?
After all, the current QS layout is the 'active layout.'
Dave Hooton:How are you using the "QuickStart" layout?
*Exactly* how it is designed. I have a custom bible/commentary layout I want at the top. Since the software forces me to leave their list at the top, but as a concession allows me to customize their layout, I've done so. So it is easy to find when I want to read my bible with a commentary (and a couple other tools) visible.

QS layouts were designed as a "quick" start for your own layouts (not as I stated above). So if you "Save as a Named layout" (one time only) then you can use the Update Active command thereafter. The only difference is that it has to be accessed from Saved Layouts (or the other side of the Layouts menu).
I see the logic of your suggestion, but you need to create an entry at Faithlife Feedback.
