I'm using a MacBook Pro, running Big Sur 11.4, and Logos 9.5 SR-1 (9.5.0.0019).

When editing text in the Sermon Builder, Logos keeps moving the contents of the window around.

I've tried to capture a video of it happening, but the video capture software is misbehaving.

There used to be a problem when the position of the cursor changed - but what you are describing sounds very different.

A temporary workround for the previous problem was to ensure the panel containing the Sermon Builder was set to default scaling. So with the scale slider set to the third position from the left with the slighthter taller marking.

If you set it to default, does that change what you are seeing?

In my experience, clicking to place the cursor at the beginning (or end) of a line was often the culprit for the document jumping around and losing its position. We didn't have good margins, so you had to click within a few pixels to get the cursor to land. If the cursor didn't land (and you didn't notice) and you typed a key on the keyboard, it would jump to the top of the document. The click would cause Sermon Builder panel to lose its cursor position, and typing a key would reset the cursor location to the beginning of the document.

We fixed this in 9.5 beta 3, and it will ship in 9.6 in July.

If you're experiencing something different, we'd love to know. Thanks for your feedback.

Graham's suggestion solved the immediate issue, but it's still a bug to be solved.

I wasn't clicking; most of the time it happens while I'm typing, although as you can see in the attached video clip, I wasn't doing anything and it jumped to the start of the sermon text:

Hmm. Interesting. Thanks for sharing. We'll see if we can find and fix the problem.

Gregory,

We're testing this and looking into it quite a bit.  Our early thought is that, for some reason, the Sermon Builder document is reloading.  Upon the reload, it's taking the view to the top of the document.  Of course now the question is why it's doing the reload action, but in your video where you weren't typing and it sent it back to the top, were any keystrokes made of any kind right before it happened?  Or, was the computer sitting idle for several seconds prior to it jumping to the top on its own?

I've tested through multiple different settings options to see if I can try to trigger it somehow but have yet to be successful.  Can you think of any settings that you had during these sessions that may have been out of the ordinary?  I'm essentially trying to find the right formula to get it to a place where I can reproduce it.

Thanks for the help with these questions as we continue to try to track down the root issue.

Hi Austin - sorry about the delayed response (I'm away from home and finally checked the forums).

I was doing nothing at all when the page reloaded. My settings are pretty much default, with the exception of reducing the panel scale. Sometimes the computer was sitting idle, sometimes for 15-20 seconds. Sometimes it happened while I was typing. In those situations the pane would jump so that the insertion point was on the bottom visible line.

Okay, thanks for the feedback.  We are continuing to test this internally and will work towards resolving it.

I have this problem ow as well. Just started last week. (First week in November) It is very frustrating. It has made the Sermon editor almost unusable. It does it less when typing but it still occurs. When reviewing the sermon is where it becomes unusable. While reading the sermon, it jumps back to the top, losing my place. I have had to start highlighting text as in selecting it for a copy so that when it jumps I can fins where I was at.

Last week I had to export the sermon to Microsoft Word an finish it there.

Hoping there is an easy solution to this. I also hoped it was something in last weeks sermon but it is still happening with a new document.

Any advice?

Update for everyone regarding this...

Our development team has been actively working on this specific issue and is continuing to identify the best way to resolve this frustrating behavior.

We have uncovered several different ways to reproduce the behavior.  This is a huge step for us in being able to get to the ultimate fix.  However, because there are multiple ways this is happening, our team is continuing to dig into what the true root issue is so that we don't just fix one scenario of it, but ideally try to get to all of the instances in which this could take place.

The work is continuing as they are very dedicated to this.  I can assure you all that it remains a top and current priority within our development team.

I will update this thread as I know more, but in the meantime, I do have one question for those of you that have reported this behavior...

How many devices do you have the Logos program on that has the ability to run Sermon Builder?  Just the one device or do you have multiple (one computer at home, a different one at the office, running it also on the Logos iPad app, etc.).  I don't need to know the locations of them, I'm just curious if you only have Logos on a single device or if it's on multiple.  The answer to this very well may help shorten part of our overall investigation.

Thank you all for your patience and for your willingness to assist us with information to help us resolve this.

I have Logos on 3 machines and have seen variants of the issue on all of them at times.

2 computers. One is rarely used and was not opened. Also on 1 tablet and one phone.

Glad I stumbled across this thread.  Mine just started doing this today as well.  I will be typing and the screen with just jump to the top of the sermon.  In one instance it made Logos unresponsive and I had to force close it and restart it.

I am sorry you are running into this, Noah. As Austin mentioned above, we are working on a fix for this right now. Do you happen to have that sermon open on another machine and/or iPad? I have been able to replicate the behavior in that case. As a short term workaround while we get this sorted, closing the sermon elsewhere kept it from reloading the sermon and jumping to the top.

I have Logos installed on two laptops, but I am currently only using one. Logos is not open on the other laptop, and the computer itself is in sleep mode.

I noticed two more instances of the sermon document reloading yesterday. It's been such a long time that the first time it happened I thought I inadvertently hit a shortcut to jump to the top of the page. The second time it happened I noticed that the first true slide (a Scripture slide, but not the automatic title slide) reloaded – it went blank and then reappeared.

I’m using the sermon editor on my iPad, and I’m finding that the view refreshes every couple of minutes and resets to the top of the document. This commonly happens when I’m in the middle of typing a sentence, and it’s definitely not waiting until my iPad is idle. I wonder if perhaps it is syncing my changes, and then refreshing the document each time? I appreciate saving the changes, but it’s a frustrating editing experience.

Just chiming in to confirm that the issue is still present in the iPad sermon editor; I confirmed my app is up to date too.

Hi Josiah

I'm not able to help you with anything on iOS, but you might want to repost this in the Logos 9 Mobile forum. That way it might get seen by those who need to see it!

Thanks for the additional information.  This will be looked at and addressed by the development team soon.
