Thom Blair (Faithlife):

OK, y'all. I've put my order in for the above two, to help you get them across the line. If you're in for one of the above but haven't yet put your order in for this one which I would like, consider a reciprocal pre-pub order, please:

Thom Blair (Faithlife):

I have also put in orders for all of the ones specifically mentioned in the thread, and I would also like to call attention to Early Christian Families in Context: An Interdisciplinary Dialogue, which covers an area of study lacking resources in Logos (Family Life in the Ancient World).

Note the list of Essays:

  • Archaeology of Domus and Insulae
    • Domus and Insulae in Rome: Families and Housefuls” by Andrew Wallace-Hadrill

  • Domestic Values: Equality, Suffering
    • “The Language of Equality in Early Christian House Churches: A Constructivist Approach” by Peter Lampe
    • “Paul’s Portrait of Christ Crucified (Gal. 3:1) in Light of Paintings and Sculptures of Suffering and Death in Pompeiian and Roman Houses” by David L. Balch

Thank you! It's reached "Almost Funded". A few more commitments over the next couple days should put it over the top.

I put in for two of these books. I have no idea how FL calculates a viable profit to fund the work of putting a book into Logos but I am sure it's not cheap to do. I think maybe they should beat the drum more to push pre-pubs. There's a lot of books and most people are simply not aware of them unless they are brought up to our attention on a regular basis above the usual noise we hear about monthly sales. Most people see what up front and rarely look at what's on the back burner.

This one is spectacularly important when it comes to the issues of religious freedom, continuity of Catholic teaching through time, and the interpretation and reception of the Second Ecumenical Council at the Vatican (aka "Vatican II"). It's also timely to get into Verbum/Logos, given Pope Francis' concerns in Traditionis custodes, which he published last Friday. It needs a bit more time and a bit of a push, and then it should do just fine.

Getting there! Just a few more pre-orders of this deceptively important work.

Why does Western liberal culture invariably weaken religious attitudes and so easily turn to anti-Christian secularism? Schindler and Healy raise the discussion on this urgent question to a totally new level in this book. They masterfully point out that only by linking freedom with truth can the Church provide an authentic Christian answer to the modern and postmodern disease of relativism.
