I often refer to bestcommentaries when I want to decide on commentaries In my studies. My question is when I only want to look at application or devotional commentaries is there some place that I can go to to identify the best application or devotional commentaries on a particular book of the bible? Do you have favorite application commentarie?

I prefer Life Application Commentary Series rather than the NIV Application.

It makes the job easier for the congregations.

There's another one, but the series isn't complete. I think it's something with Youth Application something something... It's oversimplified. But if you have great imagination, you can work from there.

Don't forget to use Logos' functionality to use the resources you already have for sermon application automatically. If your library has good resources on discipleship, counseling, and relationships, you'll probably find that's a broader, richer source of application than devotional commentaries. And you don't have to spend any more money!

Michael, with the new Best Commentaries site it is now possible to select different types of commentaries on each book of the Bible. Devotional is one of the choices. That will get you close to what you want. I've attached a screenshot from Matthew selecting Devotional commentaries and I highlighted both the IVP and NIV application commentaries as they both appear at the top of the list. In addition, the Logos icon next to a book indicates if it is available in Logos format.

Don't forget Logos' own capabilities - you can select "Type" and "application" in the Passage Guide (see below):

For those interested the cheapest way to get the above resource is through this collection, which may not be an obvious collection to view.

Legacy libraries sometimes go on sale too. I think I picked up this library for around $20 when on sale - combined with dynamic pricing.

I have found the Holman NT Commentary sets very useful for application.

I would pay attention to the idea that application is very much tied to topics. You can often jumpstart your thinking by looking at a given topic addressed within a passage.

If anyone's interested, this set is also cheaper if bought as part of a legacy library:

Thank you everyone who contributed to this thread. You have given me some great suggestions. I will go ahead and build a layout for application studies.
