I have noticed that the updated 2020 version of the NASB has the paragraph format as opposed to the '95 which doesn't. I'm aware that Logos produced the Paragraph set up for the '95 update also.

Since I'm using the updated version (NAS20), will Logos produce the same format as the non-paragraph 95?

I really don't like paragraph formats.

Thank you,

Would the one verse per line filter work? It seems to produce the same type of look as the NASB95.

No, I already set it up to have one verse per line. The '95 update has some advantages that no other translation has. For instance, if I want to add a note outside of the chapter number, I can without having to go check off the resource box. In all other translations, it only works sometimes, but in '95, I don't need to do anything.

Could you post a screenshot of what you mean ... it sounds to me as if something else is going on as I see no difference in NAS95 behavior.

There are no screenshots that will prove what I'm talking about. Everyone knows that the NASB95 came with a different "mode" which is one verse per line only than the rest of the translations.

Later on, Logos came up with the NAS95 Paragraph Edition (NASB95P) for those who didn't care for the original mode. All you have to do is look and compare the NAS95 with the NAS95P (Paragraph Edition). Everyone who owns the NASB knows the difference between the two.

In practical terms, the NAS95 cannot change its format to paragraph. It is set up to be always one verse per line. So, my question is why is it that the NAS20 does not have the same set up as the 95.

I may be able to do so later, but here is the background...

Historically, the NASB was printed "verse by verse" and not in paragraph format. The logos edition carried this formatting over. A persistent number of users requested that FL add paragraphs to the NASB, which was available in some printed editions. FL did so, but this upset those users who desired for the original formatting to be kept. There were nuanced differences between the original "verse by verse" formatting and the "one verse per line" feature in Logos. To appease everybody, FL ended up making two distinct resources: The NASB 95 Update and the NASB 95 Update: Paragraph Version. The newly released NASB 2020 (just called NASB in Logos) is currently in paragraph format.

Everyone knows

Not everyone knows, which is why MJ posed her questions.

I assume that FL received the paragraph version of the text, rather than the verse by verse edition. Only they could answer that. However, you might have better luck creating a feed bear suggestion.

I compared the old Libronix NASB95 (no paragraphing) to 10 years later, where you could choose. They look alike, even the strange bolded verse numbers.  I assume NASB2020 doesn't match even the last NASB95 ability to choose?

Couldn't upload images.

This is what I wished to see an example of the portion. The portion "without having to go check off the resource box. In all other translations, it only works sometimes," makes no sense to me ... I rarely have a computer work only sometimes and I was curious as to what behavior you were describing. I personally have an aversion to using verses as anothing other than a reference position so you may be describing behavior I have never seen.

I may be nuts, but the issue is real. Compare the difference between the NAS95 and the rest of the paragraph's bibles. Checking the box or not in in the visual filter, in the NAS95 makes no difference.

This is the reason why Logos created another NAS95P (paragraph version) for those who don't care for this set up.

My question is whether the Logos people intend to copy the same set up in the 2020 update or not? Perhaps the coming LSB?

Thank you.

Let me be a little clearer. The NAS95 has two versions of the same bible. The Paragraph set up came about 3 years ago. So, now we have the 77-paragraph, the 95, the 95-paragraph version and the 2020 paragraph version Four updates for one single translation.  The 95' version is different. Why? I don't know, but I like it.

My question is whether the 2020 will have the ame format as the 95 or perhaps the coming LSB (Legacy Standard Bible) which is another update to the 95 updates.

As for your question, the NAS95 does not match the NASB2020.

Thanks,

The resource file was updated some time ago (not very long ago) to the paragraph formatting, making it equivalent to all other translations in Logos. Prior to that time, you could NOT make the NASB go into paragraphs. It was not an option. After the uproar, the original file was rereleased, and the "paragraph" version was released as its own resource.

The NASB2020 is on par with all other bibles in features. The issue is that it is not like the original NASB95 (non paragraph) version.

Exactly, the NASB2020 does not match the NASB1995 ability to choose.

I know that we are understanding each other, but others will be confused by your statement: "the NASB1995 ability to choose." The original NASB1995 did NOT have the ability to choose, and it is specifically the formatting of that version which you want in the NASB2020.

First, I have NO QUARRELS with those who had marked up the NAS95 that was originally sold by Faithlife, then when Faithlife released the NAS95P, they wanted a return to the edition they had already been using. Since NAS20 was originally released in paragraph form (with a verse-by-verse filter available), I don't see Faithlife releasing 2 editions of the NAS20.

Note for clarification: one does not click the "one verse per line" button in the NAS95, One selects this filter in the NAS95P if he/she wants to resemble the NAS95 (without Paragraphs). [concession: the NAS95 does BOLD the verse numbers of paragraph indentions, which are absent in the paragraph editions with visual filter]

Ok ... now I understand. My Libronix NASB95 no-paragraph matches my NASB95 ten years later ... neither is the paragraph edition, and both have the unusual bolded verse/para numbers.

Thank you. As a final resort I would hope to see LSB (when it comes out) to be just like the 1995 verse per line edition.
