I Am looking at a Android tablet with 128 Gig storage internal and 1 TB Micro SD card external.

The old Verbum / Logos app had to run on internal. And I have no idea where the resources were.

Can the latest apps run on external?

And is resource storage on the internal or external [SD card] ?

On most devices internal is small / limited and external is bigger. And most apps can not be moved to external.

Has FL put in the extra effort and allowed their apps to be on external storage?

From Faithlife Customer Support:  Emily Dalton

"Our mobile apps are defaulted to internal storage. While some devices will allow you to chose where to download the mobile app (internal or external storage), we still recommend internal storage for the best use of our Logos mobile app. With our mobile apps, where-ever  you have the app downloaded, the resources will also be downloaded to the same location."

I Will ask why they "recommend internal storage" as that does not allow one to load their entire library on to most mobile devices.

It is not a good idea to download your entire library. There are many reasons for this. Unless you are a missionary out away from internet for months at a time, why bother?

I usually don't recommend Amazon, however, in this case I'm making an exception.

On the current Kindle Fire tablets, the SD card can be formatted as "internal", so you can easily download your whole library (including loads of video courses). I haven't had any issues with that approach since I started doing so maybe about a year ago.

Should you buy a Kindle Fire, you might want to make sure that it supports the most recent FireOS, so that you can enjoy it for many years before Logos support expires.

[One item is that indexing does not happen on the mobile device]

I Agree, but could you list your top five reasons, please.  To some extent I was just wondering if it would work in the external 1 TB SD card.

Also has anyone changed the storage for the latest FL apps to external from internal. [That is does it work as external?]

The older app did not allow that. [And now FL does not recommend it - implying that it does work on external]

Need to up grade so that I can use the latest FL apps.  [Am still on Android 7 and can not update my current device]

[IMHO too many apps require running from internal leaving the external SD card empty and not allowing any more apps to be added having filled the internal space]

A "feature" of Android is that the SD card can be formatted as "internal" BUT many manufactures have not enabled that "feature"

[My problem with Kindle is that five of my go to apps are not on the Kindle app store]

[Searching for 'formating SD card as internal' found this statement "some are restricted by the manufacturer from making this change" [Are we having fun yet?] ]

Probably JT is still licking his wounds from a certain recent game.

So, I'll do the top 5 reasons:

1. Everyone is on the forum, not just the OP. So advice is recommended, as applies not just to the OP, but other future victims as well.

2. The FL mobile apps are designed to fail. By this, meaning Logosian job descriptions include describing how to fix FL products, type 'BUG' in upper-case, and watch as the report disappears into oblivion. While the devoper awaits the in-app report.

3. FL mobile apps will fail.  More than normal apps. (That is a totally unsupported and therefore true statement). You will always have to reload your books. Now, you're wondering 'which books ... I forgot'.  So, the whole library might periodically be the only answer.

4. Reloading only some books reminds you, you haven't read almost any of your books.  Many forget.

5. JT emphasizes not-the-whole-library!!,  since his other really good suggestion is ignored by FL.  The better-than-a-layout great idea.

That is correct, however, there are workarounds for many devices too, usually requiring dev access via ADB. (This is not the same as "rooting" and doesn't affect things like warranty.)

Low blow. Smile

(For the record, I am perfectly able to be happy for others while also licking my wounds. I am genuinely happy for Georgia).

I don't know if I am ready for a New Years countdown. I do have time to give a few of my thoughts:

  • The best fix is very frequently to delete and reinstall the app. That requires redownloading whatever you want.
  • Resources are more easily corrupted and/or not properly updated on mobile. If your resource is "in the cloud," that isn't an issue.
  • When you try to reinstall the app, it frequently tries to redownload everything downloaded previously. If you do not "baby" the downloads, the installation can become corrupted. Which means you have to start over again. Tongue Tied
  • The app is designed to be used with an internet connection... so if you need internet for other features (including searches of your library), why not simply have most of your library in the cloud?
  • The mobile app is called a "reader." Although there are a growing number of users who would like the mobile app to replace the desktop app, it was not designed to do so. It is best to think of it the way it was intended: as a "reader."

As I previously mentioned, the app is prone to corruption. External memory is MORE prone to corruption.

Thanks to all of you for your comments.

Am reconsidering spending $500 for a tablet to run Logos.

Sounds like the mobile apps are not ready to fully replace a full computer.

They are (not), much like the web app.

Please use descriptive thread titles to attract helpful posts & save others time. Thanks!

You might want to consider a Surface Pro instead. As far as I know it can run the desktop app. However, $500 won't be sufficent to get one...
