In the Thompson Chain Reference Bible.... there is a tree chart about the genealogy of Christ.

I try to find it in Factbook.... no luck.  I try to find in with search... no luck.

Which causes me to wonder if Search and Factbook even do WordSearch files????

What am I missing?

Thanks

There is no single answer. Some sections of the Factbook contain curated or aligned results; others provide results from datasets rather than directly from resources; other provide search results from your resources. What section of Factbook are you inquiring about?

For the Search, WordSearch files are included subject to the same rules as other resources.

Logos is different to WordSearch!

Factbook prefers its own Lexham Bible Dictionary to others, but there is usually a section where your prioritized Dictionaries are used (Type = Encyclopedia in Library).

Topics can also be found in the Topic Guide, whilst Search depends on the terms you use. See the example at the bottom of the Factbook page for Genealogy of Jesus Christ.  Note: "geneaology" is also used in resources.

In the last week.... as a project....I have ran many searches in lots of the guides, Factbook and Search.... and.... I am of the opinion now....that Factbook, Search, even the other guides.... are biased totally to Logos books and such.... and most if not all of the WordSearch Library that was transformed into Logos is not considered unless we make special priorities to get them considered.

If I had a book in WordSearch.... that was also in Logos... then it was really a Logos book... and is thus included.  But if I had a book in WordSearch that is not in Logos... then I am thinking it plays 2nd or 3rd fiddle and thus is not found in all the searches and guides.

I am probably making wrong searches and such.....probably my fault.... but I just don't find the WordSearch books.. that Logos didn't have.... being searched.

Do I have to manually go through all my WordSearch books and prioritize them in such a way that they will get searched?

So... what am I doing wrong??

P.S. I was using the genealogy of Christ as an example.  I have several books from WordSearch that have topics of the genealogy of Christ.... and in my searches in Logos .... I didn't find any. These are books that Logos didn't have and Logos designated as starting with "ws...." indicating that they came from WordSearch and Logos didn't have an similar or equal book.

I understand why some resources will not appear in Factbook results - some sections require some work to be done by Faithlife.

But I would have expected them to return in Searches - can you provide some specific examples where they don't?

Thanks Graham.....  and don't take me wrong.... but.... If Factbook is going to be something useful to all... shouldn't it also work for WordSearch books?

Since I came from WordSearch...  a lot of my books and resources are in WordSeach....  so what you are saying.... is that you understand why Factbook... or other guides (I assume) does not work with a lot of my books?   I don't understand.

Later... I will try to work up an example of search...

Yes - but for some sections of the Factbook tool, work needs to be done by Faithlife for the resources to show up - whether they were originally published in Logos or not.

When the current tool was released, there were a lot of comments about favourite books - and books with really useful insights - not appearing and there is ongoing work to incorporate them. I expect, but have no inside knowledge on this, that books from Wordsearch will be included in that but it will take time.

Thanks.... but it seems like you've proved my point... that books "ws...." are not included in the guides.... and probably not in the Logos Search.. least not that I can find... And this leaves WordSearch people back to having to search in WordSearch for the WordSearch books. I came across all this by accident while doing some research and started searching...  the more I searched... the more I was confused as to why I wasn't finding info in some of my WordSearch books...

About the Logos Search....  the two screen captures below tell the tale. I searched for "Tree of Jesus' Life" .... and as you can see in the screens.... Logos Search did not find anything in my books.... Screen 1 shows it's there... Screen 2 shows it was not found...

Sooo....  either I searched all wrong.... or I'm on to something that Logos needs to work on.

Quick question - I'm in a meeting at the moment

What happens if you do a Basic - not Media - search for "Tree of Jesus' life"?

I get a few more responses... but basically same thing. It doesn't find it.

I wonder if you need to reindex so that all your WordSearch resources that were brought into Logos will be included in the search index? That should have happened automatically, but you can force it by running the command Rebuild Index from the command box (the "Go box") in Logos.

This is weird. I get it in a Media search as well as in a Basic search - do you have "match case" turned on, or use a curly apostrophe by chance?

I didn't think about Re-indexing.... good call!  I am doing it now.  I was thinking that Logos automatically took care of that problem. Thanks for mentioning it.

Basically no braces. But I will try them when the index is finished. I don't think I have ever used curly apostrophe.  Thanks

I'll let you know my results when I get them.

Thanks again!

Welllll.... looks like the re-indexing worked. I did Search again and this time on page 2... the chart was there. I did about 8 or so searches in Logos... and the search did work.  I'll keep the re-index in mind just in case... Geeked

I tried Factbook, Media Tool, Topic Guide all with no results. Which leads me to think again... that the guides are not set up to search the WordSearch books that were not originally in Logos???? Sad

Thanks for everyone's help.

Technically I think it's the other way round.

That the different sections in Guides / Tools rely on resource having been specifically tagged for them to appear in results. This takes time and only people in Faithlife would know where books imported from Wordsearch are in that process alongside other books from the original Logos catalogue.

Perhaps I'm missing something, but that chart does not appear to have anything to do with Jesus' Genealogy. I would not expect to see it show up in Factbook or a Topic Guide for that. It seems to me more likely to be associated with the topics "Life of Jesus" or "Life and Teachings of Jesus Christ".

That said, it still wouldn't show up in Factbook because the resource is an Illustrations-type resource, and Factbook doesn't yet have a section to display Illustration-type resources. This is not just limited to WordSearch books.

I believe the Topic section of the Topic guide would show results from Illustration-type resources, but this particular book won't currently show up there either, because it doesn't appear to have been annotated with topics. I'll ask about that.

I found it in a Media Search in "All Media" in "All resources" as a file in my "downloaded Library".

I appreciate that. I think it would be useful!
