It getting close to time for a new PC laptop.

Any recommendations for speedy hardware for L9? (I typically get hardware that optimizes the previous version.)

Any rumors about software changes that would require new hardware?

I did do a bit of research... and was trying to get myself into MS Surface Pro...

I wanted to get away from having a desktop and a laptop... and I thought the time had come to just get into a laptop and only have 1 machine...

I looked at all kinds of stuff but  bottom line..... I wound up with a Lenovo Yoga laptop... and you can get them in different sizes....  8 gig ram, 12 gig ram 16 gig ram.... and also 500 gig SSD on up...

I went with a Lenovo 12 gig ram 1TB SSD....  with latest Intel processor with dual screens and a docking station.... and I absolutely love it.... speed is great..... I generally have Excel, Word, Logos Chrome.... and such open.... I also am learning a programming language and have it open quite a bit. No slow down that I've noticed.  And price difference between Surface Pro and Lenovo in my case was about $750.00  which I didn't mind at all.

One of the main things with Logos (for me) was the re-indexing of my resources.... No problem now....

I have come to the conclusion that 12 gig ram is the minimum ram to run Logos....

IMHO ..... Geeked

There is/was some slight, probably unoticable unless doing a full reindex, optimisations to the indexer on 12GB+ systems. Not sure if this is still the case as there have been indexer changes over time. Please see Bradleys posts https://community.logos.com/forums/t/177457.aspx?PageIndex=3

I might do the same if I were in need of a new laptop right now. My current one is 4.5 years old has 8 gig ram and 0.5 TB SSD, which is ok, but I recommend more.

My current laptop has a touch screen, and pen for drawing. Nice, but a bit expensive. Touch screen support for PC is not that great in Logos (yet).

Last time I had to replace my computer, I took the recommended Logos specs as my ”minimum specs” to make sure Logos ran optimally. After that, I looked at other needed programs to see if those requirements bumped up my “minimum“ requirements.

The end result for the computer I got in 2020 (stats in my sig file) is it still performs well. We’ll see what Logos 10 brings.

I worked in an engineering group where everything was over engineered....  I asked why and was told ... "it saves our buts".....

I believe over engineering costs $$$$$. So when I buy for me.... I might over engineer a wee bit.... but by far and long.... I still believe over engineering does cost $$$$$$$$$$. And I am partial to my $$$$$$$$$$$.  Geeked

The machine I bought in 2019 still rocks. It's an 8tth gen i9 in a Dell XPS 15. It was already last year's model when I bought it. I do see that the latest hardware would be just fine for L10. If you buy up a notch with extra RAM, a bit bigger drive and a nice video card you will do just fine. Logos no longer needs top level hardware, but it will keep you up to snuff.

My screen is 4K. I really appreciate the better view. Splurge on that!!! If I was at a desk I would rock a big monitor. No questions asked.

Make sure that it's capable of running Windows 11 and has an SSD at least half a terabyte in size. If you go Intel, you will want at least an i5 if not better. 12GB RAM is a good minimum. Make sure that monitor has a screen that meets your quality standards.

Beyond that, sky's the limit.
