To Whom it May Concern:

I happened to notice today that the command "Set Update Channel to manual" is missing from the Logos 9 Commands Wiki page. It just has "Set Update Channel to {default|stable|beta}" but no mention of "manual".

You can set it to anything, eg "set update channel to asdf" and it checks for it, but will it respond with a 404 for that channel.

2022-06-17 20:34:08.2672  INFO 7 UpdateManagerCallback | Checking for updates from 'https://clientservices.logos.com/update/v1/feed/logos9/asdf.xml'.
2022-06-17 20:34:08.4252 ERROR 29 UpdateManagerCallback | Unexpected HTTP response when accessing 'https://clientservices.logos.com/update/v1/feed/logos9/asdf.xml': 404 Not Found

The same applies for 'manual'

It looks like MJ has already updated the wiki to include 'manual'. Thanks, MJ!

I'm not sure what you mean Kevin. 'Manual' turns off automatic software updates so that the user can determine if they want to install an update. When I want to install a software update, I temporarily switch the update channel to 'default' to check for and allow the update (as I just did with 9.14 SR-1 yesterday) and then switch it back to 'manual'. This has helped me prevent installing updates that have disruptive bugs or changes if other users report problems. So I was able to skip 9.14 and wait for the service release (9.14 SR-1) to fix a bug in the text comparison tool.

You're teaching an old dog a new trick. You mean on the stable channel all I need to do is type "Set Channel to Manual" and press Go and I then have complete control over Updates? If so, thank you very much. I did not know that. That is very useful and comforting.

I think Kevin was trying to explain that setting the channel to manual is actually setting it to a value that the software does not recognise which results in updates being prevented until explicitly requested by switching the channel back to a recognised value.

And that, consequently, you can set it to any value - apart from those the software recognises - and achieve the same result.

I altered that because "manual" is not an official channel and it is not explained elsewhere. I inserted a line that states "you can set it to manual if you do not want to receive any software updates".

I don't see the behaviour you are describing - it opened the NKJV to that point

Please provide a screenshot of the command box and the associated dropdown menu after entering the command and before pressing Enter (assuming that is how you actioned the command)

And I also suggest posting this in a new thread as it isn't related to the topic of this one.

I see, thanks for the explanation. However, given this, it is a little confusing that the tech support information in the about screen lists my update channel as 'manual' as if 'manual' is a real channel. So I just assumed that 'manual' was its own update channel since it gets listed in the about screen that way. But you learn something new every day.

Being listed does not make it a real/official channel as Logos allows just about any value for "channel". You can use NoUpdates and it will have the same effect as Manual. The only real channels are default, stable and beta.because they allow updates.
