I was going through some old boxes of papers and found these two puzzles.  I don't know the answers and thought Logos users would not only find these interesting, but could use Logos to solve them.

Puzzle 1

This puzzle was written by a lady in California in response to an offer from a gentleman in Philadelphia that he would pay $1,000 to anyone who could write a puzzle that he could not solve, He failed to do so.

The answer is one word and appears only four times in the Bible.

Adam, God made out of dust
But thought it best to make me first.
So I was made before man
To answer God's most Holy plan.
A living being, I became
And Adam gave me my name.
I from his presence then withdrew
And more of Adam never knew.
I did my maker's law obey
Nor ever went from it astray.
Thousands of miles, I go in fear,
But seldom on earth appear.
For purpose wise which God did see
He put a living soul in me.
A soul from me God did claim
And took from me the soul again.
So when from me the soul had fled,
I was the same as when first made.
And without hands or feet or soul
I travel on from pole to pole.
I labor hard by day, by night;
To fallen men give great light.
Thousands of people, young and old
Will by my death great light behold.
No right or wrong can I conceive;
The scripture I cannot believe.
Although my name therein is found;
They are to me an empty sound.
No fear of death doth trouble me;
Real happiness I'll never see.
To Heaven I shall never go;
Neither to Hell below.

Now when these lines you slowly read,
Go search your Bible with all speed;
For what my name is written there
I do honestly to you declare.

Puzzle 2  (I have found 16 of the 17 names.)

I once made a remark about the hidden
books of the Bible. It was a lulu, kept
people looking so hard for facts, and for
others it was a revelation. Some were in
a jam, especially since the names of the
books are not capitalized, but the truth
finally struck home to numbers, of
readers. To others, it was a real job. We
want it to be a most fascinating few
moments for you. Yes, there will be
some really easy ones to spot. Others
may require judges to help them. I will
quickly admit it usually takes a minister
to find one of the 17, and there will be
loud lamentations when it is found. A
little lady says she brews a cup of tea so
she can concentrate better. See how well
you can compete. Relax now, for there
really are the names of 17 books of the
Bible in these sentences.

Enjoy!

Ron

Think you left off part of the puzzle. Thats why you didn't find the 17th.

Done this one before. But its still draws me to it again and again as i forget where they were found.

Thanks for the puzzles Ronald! Logos did help find the answer (in the KJV).

I don't even know what these puzzles are so not only I wouldn't have won the $1,000 but I wouldn't even gotten a "I didn't solve these puzzles but I did get this lousy T-shirt" shirt Big Smile

16 is what I get too (though I solved a slightly different puzzle).
