Another tip of the day (TOTD) series for Logos/Verbum 10. They will be short and often drawn from forum posts. Feel free to ask questions and/or suggest forum posts you'd like to see included. Adding comments about the behavior on mobile and web apps would be appreciated by your fellow forumites. A search for "L/V 10 Tip of the Day site:community.logos.com" on Google should bring the tips up as should this Reading List within the application.

This tip is inspired by the obsolete forum post: BUG: Concordance generates incorrect count for Person Jesus - Logos Forums

One of the hardest things to get right in Logos/Verbum is to known when tidbits of information become obsolete. Why? Because the change notes don't describe everything that the change may have affected so one doesn't attach the patch to the symptom.

The discrepancy that is described in the post of how embedded tags are counted has been fixed - the search and the concordance tool agree. Note that the search and concordance counts are for simple text, not FaithLife coding, thus there are results for a second person "Jesus" mentioned in Sirach.

More frequently, one is interested in references to the person of Jesus regardless of how he is mentioned. This uses the FaithLife coding of person.Jesus which is available in the Bible browser and the Search. Note that here the matching number is the number of verses containing a reference rather than a count of the references.

What cannot easily be verified is the inline search as it produces no counts, leaving one to do visual comparisons of results. Update per Dave's identification of bug and work around below.

The search and the inline search can be verified on the basis of occurrences.

It's a bug that usually follows a selection in the drop-down. Press Enter to get the count.

Thanks Dave. I have updated the post to reflect this.
