Have just been suffering along with this since early Alpha. I'm sure there's some easy fix, but I'm far less a computer geek than most of the people on these forums. Have searched a bunch and seen others with similar problems, but the fixes don't seem to apply (or I just missed it).

  • The Bible Search works, but Basic Search does not, whether searching "Entire Library" or a particular collection. Never has for me.

  • Indexing goes down some, but always seems to get stuck, increase the amount of time, etc. And yes, I've given it oodles of time to index (overnight multiple times), rebooted my MBP, etc. Have even reinstalled at least once or twice. Can't remember exactly.

I don't really have any crashing issues. Almost all of my books show up (I think I'm missing a few still.) Haven't had to do very many Force Quits. Other than being painfully slow, I haven't really had any other issues.

Have a MacBook Pro 2.16 GHz Intel with 2 GB RAM, running 10.5.8.

Please help.

Indexer.log shows library indexing started - then paused after 2.7 % done.

Idea: since indexing takes hours, could rebuild index when anticipating many hours of non-use (e.g. sleeping or activities during day) with power adapter plugged in.

Rebuild Index command => restart Mac => watch for Blue icon in menu bar.

While indexing, can open indexer.log to watch Bible Index, Catalog Index, and Library Index progress.

If indexing does not complete, please post logs again.

Logos Indexing is processor and disk intensive along with using lots of available memory - may want to restart Mac after indexing completes.

Yes, for this build, B6, it was paused. But for numerous other builds I've let it go for hours and hours (over the course of days) and it never stopped.

I am letting it go now, of course, like I have for numerous previous builds, to see what happens... but I have done the overnight thing and the gone-from-the-office-for-hours thing many times...

Btw, Keep Smiling, I meant to say thanks for responding. Sorry if I seemed slightly snippy (nice alliteration, there). Who knows? Maybe I've unwittingly paused it enough during every build that it never finished?

Anyway... thanks. I'll keep indexing... ad infinitum/nauseum...

For grins, rebuilt index using B6 - took 2.25 hours while using Mac with 2.8 GHz Quad Core i7 with 1,394 resources in library.

If indexer.log file not finish this time, please post logs.  Hoping for break of ad infinitum/nauseum cycle.

Near bottom of my B6 rebuild, indexer.log had some good messages:

Okay, so apparently the problem was that I am just a really impatient dork... Everything's fine now.

Thanks for the help, Keep Smiling!

Nice change from "ad infinitum/nauseum" indexing Wink  Enjoy
