CRASH after resource download

I noticed I had a new release that was available for download (Kregel out today) via email, so I went to Verbum - already opened, in its own Window, and on the Home Page, and I opened/dragged the Library to full screen. I then did an "Update resources", and slid to another window. Almost immediately, Verbum crashed.

When I restarted, I had 2 of the Kregel books download, that were just released. I also got 13 Logos Mobile Ed courses that downloaded, not sure why - just released as a part of one of the Logos 10 libraries? I think there were a few other resources that updated.

I attach 2 zip files - one is before the "Restart" of Verbum - which I did via the little dialog box that comes up to say Verbum has crashed; the other zip of the logs is after the restart, and after the indexing was complete. I am never sure which one is the most beneficial, I assume the "before"?

Logs before restarting are always required as they will be overwritten during a restart.

Hi Don,

Can you delete a resource file for me and restart Verbum?

Quit Verbum.
Open Finder.
Press CMD+Shift+G
Type ~/library/application support/Verbum
Click Go.
Navigate to Data/bubkbbvq.x85/ResourceManager/Resources/
Delete PLSPRTPGDRPCKGD.logos4
Restart Verbum.
Post the subsequent log recording the crash if Verbum crashes again.

Ideally Verbum won't crash, and automatically redownload the resource you're deleting.

Thomas I did all the steps as you outlined above; I waited until the download and indexing were finished, exited Verbum and checked the Mac logs - alas no crash. I did include logs here just in case they are helpful. Sorry! Let me know if I should try something else.

Hey Don, that sounds like the outcome we are expecting and wanting which is good to see! Just want to follow up and make sure what Im seeing from your last comment is good? Or was there another issue happening? If no crash, it sounds like we are good to close this case out?

I was expecting a crash, that we were still in bug-pursuit mode. I also wzs not sure it happened every time there is a download. Was something found in the logs or code and fixed, that I was verifying? If so it worked fine. If nothing has been found/fixed, then it will probably happen again.

So I guess the question is back at you - was I testing a fix or seeing if it would crash so it could be researched?

From your logs, it appeared that the crash was happening due to a corrupted file. The instructions from Thomas Ball got rid of the corrupted file. If something like this happens again, I recommend contact support and they can help you resolve the problem again.

Oh great! Then yes, that resource re-downloaded fine, indexed, and there has been no indexer crash! So then yes, I would say case closed thanks!!!

There are.

Something similar to this line indicates that the application crashed while trying to apply an update patch to a resource file:
> 15 (wrapper managed-to-native) Libronix.DigitalLibrary.NativeMethods:PatchResource

Just before the crash occurred, you will see this line indicating which file it was trying to patch:
> InstallResourceUpdateStage | (Timed) Patching GS_SBJT_25.logos4 with /Users/donawalt/Library/Application Support/Verbum/Data/bubkbbvq.x85/UpdateManager/Resources/67532/2022-05-06T17_42_21Z.lbsevp.

The problem could be an issue either with a corrupted patch file (the .lbsevp file listed above) or the resource file it's trying to patch (which is found in the ResourceManager\Resources\ folder.

If you had a troublesome network connection, the patch file could end up corrupted. If you have a drive with problems, the patch file or resource file could end up corrupted.
