Another tip of the day (TOTD) series for Logos/Verbum 10. They will be short and often drawn from forum posts. Feel free to ask questions and/or suggest forum posts you'd like to see included. Adding comments about the behavior on mobile and web apps would be appreciated by your fellow forumites. A search for "L/V 10+ Tip of the Day site:community.logos.com" on Google should bring the tips up as should this Reading List within the application.

This tip is inspired by the forum post: Inline Search Features not Available in all Resources - Logos Forums

Resources used as examples:

  • The Holy Bible: New Revised Standard Version. Nashville: Thomas Nelson Publishers, 1989.
  • Houser, R. E. Logic as a Liberal Art: An Introduction to Rhetoric & Reasoning. Washington, D.C.: The Catholic University of America Press, 2020.
  • Parsons, Mikeal C. Acts. Paideia Commentaries on The New Testament. Grand Rapids, MI: Baker Academic, 2008.

Most users recognize that for pericopes to be offered as an option in a Bible, that Bible must containing pericope markings.

What is less obvious is that sentences and paragraph likewise must be tagged by Faithlife. Looking for periods or indentations doesn't work across all languages or in electronic forms.

So what is one to make of this?

The absence of options indicates that there is no coding for sentences, paragraphs, verses, chapters ... rather the default of "article" is the only span available. In cases where a strong argument can be made that this hinders their usefulness, one may ask Faithlife to reconsider tagging it.

Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."
