Another tip of the day (TOTD) series for Logos/Verbum 10. They will be short and often drawn from forum posts. Feel free to ask questions and/or suggest forum posts you'd like to see included. Adding comments about the behavior on mobile and web apps would be appreciated by your fellow forumites. A search for "L/V 10+ Tip of the Day site:community.logos.com" on Google should bring the tips up as should this Reading List within the application.

This tip is inspired by the forum post: BUG: Addressee & Speaker labels splitting words in NRSVue - Logos Forums

The addressee and speaker labels from the visual filter menu are frequently splitting words in two. I have pasted a screenshot with the split words below:

This is usually fixed by re-indexing the book or removing the book and redownloading it. The usual cause is a failure to download the most recent version or a corruption of the index. If neither of these actions fix the problem, you need to come to the forums or go to technical support. Note that the same steps may be used when a search fails to return results that it obviously should.

Rebuild index

rebuild [index name] index

Sometimes the search index will need to be rebuilt, either because the indexer failed to complete its tasks, or because the index became corrupted. If the indexer is already running, these commands restart the indexer from the beginning.

Note: Building the index takes a long time and uses many system resources.

• rebuild index reindexes all resources.
• rebuild library index reindexes all resources except personal books.
• rebuild personal book index reindexes personal books only.

Learn more about indexing.

Reindex a resource

Reindex resource

Rebuilds the index for a specific resource. The resource can be specified by title or resource identifier. To find the resource identifier, navigate to the Resource Information page for a given resource.

• reindex esv rebuilds the index for the English Standard Version.
• reindex LLS:46.10.22 rebuilds the index for the Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary (Eleventh Edition).

If you have reason to suspect that a resource has not been indexed:-

  • right-click in Library and Remove from this device
  • restart Logos with CTRL key held  (this will ensure deletion of the resource and start logging)
  • right-click in Library and Download
  • after a few minutes check the LogosIndexer log for these messages:
    • "Checking x resources that may have changed since they were last indexed." followed by
    • "No resources need to be indexed."  or "y resources need to be indexed,..."
    • (check against BibleIndex and LibraryIndex)

I usually ignore the checking of the log unless I have tried the visual filter (or search) and still gotten bad information.

Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

Please note that the Bible Index no longer exists in v.10+.
