Libronix to Logos 4 on Mac

I've been using Logos for over 15 years. Currently running Libronix 3.0e on PC Quad running Vista on one and Window XP on laptop. Every thing is fine with substantial add-on's like Anchor Dictionary, Word Commentaries etc.
Just bought 2 Mac running Snow Leopard (iMac and MacBook). I understand Logos 4 on Mac is in Beta 7. I have the following questions. Hope some of you out there can help before I plunge in and get rid of my PC's.
1. Can I run Libronix 3 as well as Logos 4 on my PC's? I have several projects on-going and cannot afford to have troubles with my Libronix while I learn to use Logos 4 on my PC's.
2. If I load Beta 7 Logos 4 on my Mac's, can I learn to use it and get some practice while still keep the PC's with Logos 4 and Libronix 3?
3. How does Logos 4 run on a concurrent Window OS installed on my Mac?
4. Which Window OS would you recommend running concurrently on the Mac? Window 7? Vista? XP?
5. Which concurrent software would you recommend for the Mac running Window OS?
6. Would ALL my add-on's from my Libronix be loadable onto Logos 4? I noticed the Nestle Aland interlinear is not on any of the Logos 4 package?
As you can see, I am very cautious when changing or upgrading from one platform to another, and from one OS to another. I can't afford to experience any buyer's remorse.
Thank you very much in advance. This is my first foray into this forum.

Yes, although we'll all feel sorry for you if you do.

Absolutely.
David T Lee said:3. How does Logos 4 run on a concurrent Window OS installed on my Mac?
There are a number of ways this question should be interpreted, and I'm not sure which one you meant. Could you clarify?
David T Lee said:4. Which Window OS would you recommend running concurrently on the Mac? Window 7? Vista? XP?
I have no particular recommendation, although others may.
David T Lee said:5. Which concurrent software would you recommend for the Mac running Window OS?
Do you mean virtualization software, like Parallels or Fusion?

It depends upon your definition of add-on. If you mean "books", then yes, everything that you have a license to in Libronix will transfer to Logos 4. Certain features, like Personal Book Builder, have not yet been implemented in Logos 4, and others, such as the Sentence Diagrammer, are not yet complete. Customer service can give you much more information about what is and is not supported.

Thank you for your quick answers.
1. Why feeling sorry for me
running both Libronix and Logos 4? Performance degradation? Logos
being far superior functionality-wise?
3. You are right, there
are several interpretation to my question. I was concern about the
performance of Mac running both Window OS as well as Mac OS. This is
strictly not a Logos question, rather a Mac question.
5. Yes, I
understand there are several concurrent/virtualization software. Just
wonder if there are any recommendation on which one is better. Again
it is, strictly speaking, a Mac question and not Logos.
6. Yes, I mean all the books I have bought the license for in Libronix will be loaded onto Logos 4 with my CD's?

All your books will transfer to Logos 4. Purchasing an upgrade to a new Logos 4 base package (discounts are back!) will give you a lot of new stuff that wasn't in earlier base packages, like the new Biblical People/Places/Things data sets and other goodies.

Well I don't know about David but...
David T Lee said:1. Why feeling sorry for me

Yes they are all yours for as long as Logos' servers continue spinning. You can't even put them down and not remember where they are.

Thanks again. This forum is fantastic.
I do have one specific question: In Libronix, I use the "Nestle Aland 26th Edition Greek NT with McReynoldsEnglish interlinear" a lot. I don't remember buying it. It came on the Libronix package. But I don't even see that in the Logos 4 offering. Hence my question is still: would I be missing any materials (books, not features) I now have on Libronix, besides the additional books I have purchased?
Another related question: I purchased the Anchor Bible Dictionary and the Word Bible Commentary from somewhere (CBD I believe). I have the cd's. Would Logos 4 allow me to load them onto my Mac?
Thanks, David

I see this resource in my library, so I assume that you will still have it (see below).

Anything for which you have a valid license in L3 should automagically appear in L4.

strictly not a Logos question, rather a Mac question.Performance depends on tasks being done - if really need fast Windows performance, Boot Camp is an option (partitions hard drive - choose to boot Mac OS X or WIndows).

it is, strictly speaking, a Mac question and not Logos.Better somewhat subjective (includes wallet impact). For infrequent Windows use (comparison), Oracle VirtualBox is Free - lacks some integration features of Parallels and VMWare Fusion.
Rebuild Index comparison: iMac 2.8 GHz quad core i7 takes 2 hours for Scholar's Platinum
VirtualBox Virtual Machines with 2 GB Ram and 2 Processors:
* Windows XP 32 bit takes 5 hours (150 % longer)
* Windows XP 64 bit takes 4 hours (100 % longer)
* Windows 7 Professional 64 bit takes 2.75 hours (37 % longer)
Dell laptop Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit takes 3.25 hours (62 % longer)
Laptop specifications: Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 2.26 Ghz laptop, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3670 with 512 MB, 8 GB Ram, 7200 RPM disk => Windows Experience Index is 5.9 (Processor, Ram, & Disk are 5.9 while both graphics are 6.4)
Virtualization needs enough Memory and Disk so host OS and guest machine(s) each have enough.
On a previous iMac, installed Libronix 2.0 (using CD's) into a Windows XP virtual machine (updates turned off), Libronix 3.0g in 2nd Windows XP virtual machine (copied 1st vm then upgraded), and Logos 4 Beta in 3rd WIndows XP virtual machine. After purchasing Logos 4 base package upgrade, ran Libronix 3 upgrade scripts to download resources - used shared folder to copy to Mac => Logos for Mac 1.2.2 use.
Note: any Windows installation needs ongoing maintenance - Windows needs many more security patches than Mac OS X.
Edit: reformat Rebuild Index times (with % longer comparison) and added Windows 7 Professional 64 bit virtual machine.

Likewise use NA27 with McReynolds English Interlinear - clicking greek words opens BDAG reference in Scholar's Platinum library. Logos 3 Scholar's Library included this valuable resource => http://wiki.logos.com/Contents_of_Discontinued_Base_Packages - Libronix license transferred to Logos 4.
New Logos 4 base package does not include NA27 with McReynolds English Interlinear (only Logos morphology).

Once Logos account updated with Logos 4 upgrade, resource download should include all Libronix purchases. If not, "scan optical media" command can be used to discover and copy resources on CD's.
